Job Duties

The Department of Motor Vehicles is looking for a Portable Weigh Systems Manager. The Portable Weigh Systems Manager oversees the Commonwealth's Portable Weighing Operations. This includes portable weigh in motion and portable truck axle scales. This position works directly with federal, state and local law enforcement in the deployment and maintenance of portable traffic data weigh in motion devices and is responsible for the maintenance, repair and calibration of portable scales used by DMV along with Federal, State and Local law enforcement. This job will require frequent overnight travel, inventory management and personnel management while working directly with vendors and law enforcement to ensure that Virginia Roadways are kept safe.

This position is open to current Virginia State employees only.

Minimum Qualifications

•Considerable knowledge of truck weighing policies, procedures and operations and Virginia and federal laws and the Motor Vehicle Code of Virginia
•Considerable skill in PC applications and in mechanical skills.
•Experience interpreting and applying specifications, written instructions and policy.
•Experience with analyzing equipment failures and taking corrective actions.
•Experience maintaining accurate files and records in both written and electronic form.
•Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting 50 lb. scales.
•Experience scheduling mobile (permanent, random, and special) operations
•Experience working with multiple stakeholders and learning new skills through on the job
training.

Additional Considerations

•Eligible for Commercial Driver’s License, Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services Scale Technician’s License.
•Possession of a valid driver’s license and a driving record which reflects a sense of responsibility for highway safety and concern for the law.
