Summary

Employee is under the guidance of the Survey Division Field Supervisor or the direction of a crew leader. Employee is responsible for survey work accomplished while performing land boundary, geodetic, engineering and construction surveys. Employee may work alone, or lead and direct the work of other surveyors in accomplishing necessary survey activities. This position requires the application of the technical knowledge of surveying methods and techniques, and the operation of survey instruments and equipment, in the collection and transference of measurement and evidence data, and the establishment of positions “on-the-ground”.

What You'll Do

• Responsible for safety of self and personnel under employee’s direction, by instruction and enforcement of applicable safety rules and procedures. Insure safe operation of survey work in the field by conducting job site safety audits and tailboard talks.
• Participates in all phases of field survey work, including directing and instructing
• Responsible for the function and maintenance of all survey instrumentation and equipment assigned, including actual operation of equipment when required.
• Using available reference data, such as engineering and land survey drawings, plans, maps and plats, with a knowledge of surveying mathematics, calculate and determine measurements to create or reestablish locations for survey points to:
  • Control construction activities.
  • Obtain design data and installation record documentation
  • Ascertain and verify property boundary lines, and corner monument positions.
  • Detect dynamic dimensional changes in horizontal distances and elevations, in monitoring programs.
• Responsible for the completeness, correctness, precision and accuracy of record measurement information collected; and also for the preparation of additional notes, descriptions, reports, digital imagery and sketches, as necessary, to assist others in the use of assembled survey data.
