Position Specific Summary

The Senior Internal Auditor position in the City of Tucson’s City Manager’s Office oversees audits of the organizations financial and information systems, assessing compliance with applicable standards and guidelines and sufficiency of internal controls. 

 

Work is performed under the supervision of The Assistant City Manager/Chief Financial Officer. This position exercises supervision over Internal Audit personnel. 

Duties and Responsibilities

• Plans, organizes, assigns, supervises, reviews and evaluates the work of audit staff. 

• Recommends selection of staff; trains staff in work procedures; administers discipline as required. 

• Audits the city’s financial records, statements, and reports, verifying accuracy and consistency. 

• Audits the city’s information systems, assessing compliance with data security and storage requirements. 

• Reviews internal controls, policies, and procedures for effectiveness. 

• Drafts and presents reports of findings and analysis. 

• Identifies and recommends revisions and improvements to accounting practices and procedures. 

• Performs all other duties and tasks assigned.  

Working Conditions

Mostly office environment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

MINIMUM REQURED QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Bachelor's degree
Experience: Three (3) years of directly related experience
License/Certification: Valid and unrestricted Arizona Class D Driver License - Arizona Department of Transportation

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Accounting degree
Certified Public Accountant
Certified Internal Auditor

Some positions require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a city vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage.
