Responsibilities
The Senior Software Engineer will work across Noblis as the lead software architect for modeling and building virtual environments and simulations. The candidate will design, architect and build digital twin and digital engineering solutions in Pixar’s Universal Scene Description (USD), Material Definition Language, open-source libraries as the core scene representation, enabling collaborative workflows when creating complex 3D/4D worlds and digital twin environments for Noblis customers across multiple public sector vertical markets.
The candidate will recommend and spearhead adoption of 3D applications and modeling and simulation solutions, serving as lead architect and consulting in the beforementioned domains across Client accounts. The candidate will demonstrate high levels of technical knowledge, ingenuity and creativity to achieve outstanding results. The candidate will collaborate with technical and business leaders, scientific researchers, and will lead diverse software development project teams. The candidate will work with senior technical staff to evaluate commercial platforms, develop, and demonstrate prototypes, integrate innovative approaches and technology, and incorporate Client feedback into new solutions.
Responsibilities
The Senior Software Engineer, 3D/4D Modeling & Immersive Technologies will:
- Function as lead software developer, designer, architect, researcher, and cross-enterprise technical leader in the areas of 3D/4D simulation, modelling, and digital twin development.
- Plan, design and build highly interactive virtual, synthetic, and simulated environments for the corporate enterprise and across Client accounts.
- Invent innovative approaches to technical challenges, prove them out with rapid prototypes, and transition successes to sustainable productization.
- Extract and decompose customer requirements, develop conceptual models, implement them in software, and perform statistical and qualitative analysis of simulation results and performance.
- Develop innovative, leading-edge virtual environments and models of complex systems and environments across a variety of Federal Civilian, Defense and Law Enforcement mission use cases.
- Work closely with scientists, technical staff and other domain experts from across the firm in various geographical locations to capture Client requirements and advance the state of our digital engineering practice.
- Advise Noblis leadership on necessary investments and initiatives, to include evaluation and selection of software platforms, standards, architectures, frameworks and professional development.
- Comfortably and efficiently manage high-performing teams, defining units of work to achieve strategic objectives while minimizing risk.
- Mentor and train early and mid-career software developers in new platforms and software design approaches.
- Provide demonstrations of software solutions, simulations and digital twin environment capabilities to potential and current government Clients.
- Understand the needs of our Federal Civilian, Defense, and National Security markets, while collaborating across diverse technology, shared service, and Customer facing organizations to engage Clients and develop digital engineering solutions that support their mission requirements.
- Develop and maintain a broad understanding of Noblis scientific, research, and technical capabilities.
Required Qualifications
Technical Experience and Domain Expertise
- Background with Linux and Windows
- Bachelor Degree in related field.
- 3D/4D experience is a must with 12+ years of industry experience building 3D/4D tools, models, and complex simulations.
- Minimum ten years’ experience in two or more of the following programing languages: C#, Java, Python, C and/or C++; experience w/JavaScript, R, Rust and / or SQL.
- Significant experience sought in modern game engine development to include Unity and/or Unreal; experience developing complex applications in Universal Scene Description (USD) 3D Framework required.
- Extensive experience in behavior modeling, software engineering, algorithm design, and various integrated development environments IDE, e.g., Visual Studio, Eclipse, NetBeans, etc.).
- Experience in Version Control (e.g., Git, GitHub / Lab), CI/CD (e.g., GitHub Actions, CircleCI) and DevOps workflows required.
- Experience in synthetic environment scalability, integration, and parallelization for demanding use cases.
- Solid understanding of the graphics and compute pipelines of modern GPU’s highly preferred.
- Experience with GPU performance optimizations highly preferred.
