Status: Full-time, non-exempt

Location: Willow Elementary

Hourly rate: $21.87 per hour

Schedule: General work schedule is 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. and is based on the general operating hours of the schools served. Candidate must also be available to work up to 8 p.m. at least two evenings per month, as well as weekends, as needed, to meet the needs of the program.

Program

The San Diego Promise Neighborhood (SDPN) program provides assistance to schools & the community that surrounds it. Along with our partners, our program focuses on delivering services in hopes of building a better community. 


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Under the supervision of the SDPN Program Coordinator, the In Class Tutor is responsible for providing academic support services to youth (grades K-6) in their respective schools in the San Ysidro area. Tutors will be responsible for keeping with SDPN’s anchors of transformation, program culture, mission, goals, objectives, and style, within a collective framework which is representative of the community we serve. Tutor will support teacher lesson plans in the classroom and build rapport with and provide guidance to children and youth on a variety of topics including life skills such as positive decision making, self-esteem building, to name a few. The In Class Tutor’s primary focus of responsibility will be to provide students with academic support in learning or developing Math and English as a second language skills in both group and individual capacities.

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities:

  • Provide and/or assist with individual/group academic support and articulate the learning targets for each class, group of children and individual students who may have a personalized academic schedule based on needs
  • Provide tutoring services during Saturday school, as needed
  • Effectively partner with teachers to Implement tutoring in alignment with the teacher’s lesson plans and guidance
  • Keep up to date with ed
