JOB SUMMARY:

 

The Assistant Professor of Voice Instruction position is a full-time, tenure-track appointment in the College of Arts and Sciences at Kentucky State University. We seek a passionate and dynamic voice instructor committed to excellence in teaching, performance, and scholarly activities. The successful candidate will be an integral part of our vibrant music community, contributing to both the academic and artistic development of our students.

 

The successful candidate will demonstrate potential for significant contributions to the field through research and creative activity.

 

Candidates should demonstrate a strong commitment to developing a studio of undergraduates, including a multicultural population of first-generation students within the context of a Historically Black, (HBCU), Land Grant, Liberal Arts University.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

 

Teaching and Student Development

  • Provide high-quality individual voice instruction to undergraduate and graduate students across a variety of styles and genres.
  • Teach courses in voice pedagogy, diction, vocal literature, and performance techniques as needed by the department.
  • Advise and mentor students in their academic, artistic, and professional development, including guiding them through recitals, juries, competitions, and auditions.
  • Recruit and retain excellent students

Performance and Creative Activity

  • Maintain an active performance schedule, both as a soloist and in collaboration with other artists, ensembles, and organizations.
  • Engage in scholarly and creative activities that contribute to the advancement of the field and the reputation of the department.
  • Encourage and facilitate student participation in recitals, ensembles, and other performance opportunities within the university and the community.

Curriculum Development and Assessment

  • Participate in the development and revision of the voice curriculum to ensure it meets the evolving needs of students and aligns with contemporary practices in voice instruction.
  • Contribute to the assessment and evaluation of student performance and progress, providing constructive feedback and support for continuous improvement.
  • Assist in the design and implementation of departmental initiatives that enhance the learning environment and educational outcomes.

Service and Community Engagement

  • Serve on departmental, school, and university committees, contributing to the governance and development of the academic community.
  • Participate in outreach activities, including recruitment, auditions, and community engagement events that promote the department and its programs.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to support interdisciplinary projects and initiatives that advance the mission of the [Department/School/University]. 

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED: 

  • Outstanding vocal technique and performance skills, with the ability to inspire and develop students’ vocal abilities.
  • Strong pedagogical skills in voice instruction, with a commitment to fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Proficiency in teaching vocal pedagogy, diction, and vocal literature, with the ability to adapt teaching methods to diverse student needs.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills, with a collaborative approach to working with colleagues and students.
  • Ability to integrate technology into teaching and performance to enhance the learning experience and support student engagement.

 

      SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

  • This position does not have supervisory responsibility.
