A Brief Overview
The Allergy Registered Nurse (RN) works collaboratively as an active member of the interprofessional team to provide therapeutic patient and family centered care. The Allergy RN is responsible for overseeing daily operations of the clinic, accepts accountability, applies competent clinical knowledge and uses independent nursing judgment for care provided by self and by health care providers to who care is delegated to achieve quality patient care outcomes in a safe environment. The RN also must possess the ability to assess and interpret patient data needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his or her age-specific needs. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, patient assessment and triage, excellent communication and customer service skills, counseling and educating patients related to allergy and immunologic conditions and disease processes. The Allergy RN prepares patient charts with necessary medical information from referring physicians for office appointments. The Allergy RN rooms clinic patients, obtains vital signs and reports patient concerns or pertinent observations to provider. The RN will assist in coordinating procedure triage, in office testing as ordered by the provider, coordinating tests and services, scheduling patients, instructing and educating patients, assisting physicians with procedures, monitoring patients during/after procedures, and accurate documentation of all patient related activities. The Allergy RN administers high risk allergy injections to all patient populations. The Allergy RN responds to emergent patient situations and provides patient care under the direction of the provider. The Allergy RN may also perform procedures and testing under indirect physician supervision.

Education Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) Preferred

Experience Qualifications

• Experience in a clinic setting. Preferred

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. (Required proficiency)

Licenses and Certifications

• Registered Nurse - KSBN A multistate license with the ability to practice within the State of Kansas is also accepted. Required
• Basic Life Support - BLS RQI, CPR or ACLS certifications may be required in lieu of or in addition to BLS depending on department. Must have within 90 days of hire.

• Provides direct patient care as defined within the scope of the state’s nurse practice act. Performs assessment/data collection in an ongoing and systematic manner, focusing on physiological and cognitive status. Administers prescribed medications, infusions, and/or treatments in accordance with nursing standards.
• Formulates a prioritized and goal directed plan of care, which is based on patient’s presenting problems and projected outcomes.
• Implements care in a knowledgeable, skillful, consistent manner, while promoting the continuum of care.
• Functions to establish priorities of patient care based on essential patient needs and available unit resources of time, personnel, equipment and supplies. Prepares equipment and aids provider during treatment, examination and testing of patients.
• Evaluates the effectiveness of the health care process (self, systems, environment, and instrumentation) in meeting outcomes. Observes, records, and reports patient’s condition and reaction to drugs and treatments to provider. Provides medication as directed.
