About the role

The primary focus of the MCH Cultural Broker is to use their deep understanding about the health values, beliefs, and practices of their cultural group or community, combined with their knowledge of navigating the health care system to bridge gaps between community members from different cultures and service providers. This position is integral in ensuring culturally comepetent care, fostering collaboration, and ultimately improving the relationships between agencies and families.

The MCH Cultural Broker is an expert within maternal and child health topic areas as well as a cultural leader within their communities.

Responsibilities include consulting, evaluating and integrating operational practices, procedures and activities in support of the outcomes of policy or program initiatives, and may include providing leadership on selected activities involving other personnel, task force or committees, advocates or members of the public.

Requirements

The candidate should have a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and/or (3) years related work experience.

In addition, the candidate should possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:

· Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to develop plain language messages about complex information

· Knowledge of the methods and techniques of disseminating health education information effectively

· Able to develop outreach materials, training and educational resources

· Skilled in writing and developing content for various platforms

· Able to direct and manage webpage development and print production projects

· Skilled in using Microsoft Office programs

· Able to give presentations about basic program information and to conduct trainings for a variety of audiences

· Able to work on multiple projects consecutively while maintaining accuracy, paying attention to detail, and meeting project deadlines

· Able to function effectively both independently and collaboratively within a team environment

The following knowledge, skills, and abilities are preferred:

· Knowledge related to maternal and child health, children with special health care needs, child development and other relevant public health topics.

· Fluent in written and spoken English is a must.

· Bilingual or multilingual with the ability to speak and write in one or more of these languages: French, Somali, Arabic, or Portuguese.

· Proficiency in Zoom and other distance technology applications that support online training
