Position Overview:
The Novelis Tax team is seeking a Director Tax Operations, Global Tax. The person in this role will report to the VP, Tax. This role requires excellent technical knowledge on tax matters including ASC 740, US federal tax, international tax, state & local tax, and substantial knowledge of foreign tax issues. The ideal candidate will provide guidance and support to ensure the integrity and operational effectiveness of the tax function, as well as recommend solutions for tax initiatives and issues. And will be responsible to guarantee the accuracy and quality of tax reporting for external reporting (SEC); lead internal resource for tax to provide tax technology and process improvements to apply strong technical knowledge to benefit Novelis’ operations via lower effective tax rate and cash savings.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the development, analysis, and implementation of planning ideas to minimize global taxes that agrees with the overall company strategy. Planning solutions should be flexible to adapt to changing legislation, global strategy, and/or business models.
- Responsible for the review of US GAAP calculations including FIN18, FIN48, APB23, entity tax provisions, deferred and current tax, and consolidated provision calculations. This may include some hands on preparation.
- Responsible for the review of India Accounting Standard calculations, cash tax calculations, income tax projections, variance calculations and other calculations as they may arise. This may include some hands on preparation.
- Partner with business units to analyze the impact of potential operational issues, quantify tax reserves, and recommended course of actions to minimize Novelis’ tax risks.
- Provide decision making support to finance, treasury, operations, supply chain, and procurement leadership teams through tax issue identification and resolution for business strategies.
- Act as a resource for the VP Tax, and apply strong technical knowledge to benefit Novelis’ operations via lower effective tax rate, cash savings, and quality of reported financial numbers.
- Create and implement improvements for the tax provision process and other tax processes through the use of tax technology, Alteryx, Onestream and other available technology solutions to simplify complex processes and procedures.
- Work with cross-functional teams such as IT and finance, and work with external consultants on special projects including tax efficiencies.
- Work with geographically disperse teams
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in accounting or finance.
- Minimum of 15 years of related experience, to include minimum of 10 years of international tax experience.
- Demonstrated ability to manage others, both directly and indirectly, and the ability to operate effectively in a matrixed environment.
- Strong cross-functional collaboration skills and ability to influence others through demonstrated expertise.
- Highly motivated strategic thinker with strong leadership, organizational, project management, and proven problem solving and decision making skills.
- Must be open to change in response to new information and unexpected circumstances and have the ability to work in ambiguous situations.
- Aptitude to properly interpret and strategically apply government regulations and related technical requirements to global business and trade scenarios.
- Excellent analytical skills, written and oral communication skills, presentation skills, and the ability to clearly convey tax concepts to global audiences.
- Adhere to high moral, ethical, and personal values in decisions, communications, and actions, and when dealing with others.
- The ability to work with geographically dispersed teams and have a high level of cross cultural awareness.
Preferred Qualifications:
- JD, MST or MBA highly desirable.
