WORK WEEK SCHEDULE

Monday-Friday (occasional evenings and weekends) Position is eligible for hybrid telework workweek

 

POSITION PURPOSE:

Provides support and assistance to employees, including beginning teachers, alternative licensure teachers, ambassador teachers, and employees new to the district, ensuring their effective transition into the district and specifically into the classroom. Designs and delivers professional learning for all district teachers including teachers that may require additional support. Collaborates with Wake County Public School System (WCPSS) Academics, Human Resources, school administrators, mentor coordinators, mentors, and other supervisors to monitor and administer system-wide compliance with the state, federal, and local Beginning Teacher Support Program requirements.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSAs)

  • Considerable knowledge of the Beginning Teacher Support Program;
  • Considerable knowledge of policies governing North Carolina Professional Educator’s Licensure requirements including the licensure renewal process;
  • Considerable knowledge of NCEES and the overall evaluation process of professional staff;
  • Considerable knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; Google Apps;
  • Considerable knowledge in coaching;
  • Critical thinking and problem–solving skills;
  • Ability to utilize coaching skills to support planning, reflection, and problem resolution;
  • Ability to design and deliver professional learning to adults;
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form, using a variety of communication techniques and tools to ensure the appropriate flow of information, collaborative efforts, and feedback;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with teachers, administrators, support staff, and other key stakeholders.

 

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in General Education or related field;
  • Four years of teaching experience in a public school setting;
  • Experience in planning and delivering professional learning.

 

 

 

CERTIFICATION AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS

  • Hold or be qualified to hold a North Carolina Professional Educator’s License-Standard Professional II in a teaching area;
  • Must hold and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator’s license according to the State of NC requirements.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree in Education or School Administration;
  • Experience serving as a BTSP Mentor Coordinator or Mentor;
  • Experience serving as an Instructional Facilitator, Math/Literacy Coach, etc.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Establishes a relationship with new and beginning teachers including teachers that may require additional support, their mentors, mentor coordinators, and school administrators of an assigned set of schools; collaborates to determine any gaps between needed and existing support.
  • Informally observes and mentors beginning teachers including teachers that may require additional support to provide feedback related to curriculum and instruction, classroom management, and other related areas.
  • Develops and implements differentiated support plans for teachers that may include general orientation, induction, mentoring, coaching, and professional learning.
  • Evaluates and monitors the effectiveness of training delivered and its effects on the instructional process, student achievement, and system goals.
