Core Responsibilities:
As a Senior Auditor you will:
• Utilize your knowledge of the Cost Reimbursement Principles, the Uniform Guidance, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and Generally Accepted Auditing Standards to perform professional auditing work of a supervisory and highly independent nature.
• Oversee and conduct independent audits of MaineCare Providers and Community Agencies in accordance with established laws, rules, regulations, and standards.
• Mentor and provide supervision to audit staff by providing technical support and guidance to other auditors engaged in their audit assignments, by interpreting established department program reimbursement regulations and policies, and by performing staff case reviews.
• Assist Management in the annual planning and implementing of work schedules and work programs for meeting the Division’s audit oversight responsibilities.
• Be detail oriented, able to work independently, possess a high level of initiative in the performance of your daily work activities.
Requirements:
To qualify, your background must include Certification as a CPA, CIA, or CISA OR a Masters Degree in Business Administration, or related field and one year of accounting or auditing experience;
OR
a Bachelors Degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or related field and three years of progressively responsible accounting and auditing experience or one year of directly related auditing experience in a government environment which includes experience as a working supervisor or in an equivalent capacity;
OR
meets the requirements to sit for the Certified Public Accountant’s Examination (at least 150 semester hours of education, including a minimum 4-year baccalaureate or higher degree conferred by a college or university acceptable to the board, and shall consist of at least 15 hours of accounting, auditing and ethics (which must include at least three hours of auditing and three hours of accounting), and three years of progressively responsible accounting and auditing experience or one year of directly related auditing experience in a government environment which includes experience as a working supervisor or in an equivalent capacity;
OR
ten (10) years of practical, progressively responsible accounting or auditing experience at the professional level.
The background of well-qualified candidates will demonstrate the following competencies:
1. Demonstrated experience in reviewing complex financial records to determine compliance with the Medicaid, Uniform Guidance and MAAP regulations.
2. Demonstrated ability to research laws, regulations, and highly technical accounting and/or policy issues and offer sound advice to Department Management.
3. Demonstrated experience in reviewing audit work papers prepared by junior auditors or CPAs.
4. Exceptional communication skills and proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
5. Highly organized self-starter capable of using professional judgement, prioritizing responsiveness, and applying analytical thought for problem resolution.
6. Ability to be flexible and adjust to business needs while balancing multiple tasks and priorities.
