This is an OPS position working approximately 20 hours a week. $15/hour

Your Specific Responsibilities:
Incumbent must be willing to work independently and intermittently both daytime and evening hours. Schedule is dependent on the demand of public spray/larvicide requests. Work is only performed each year during peak mosquito control season which is from approximately March - November. Some hours of work may be available during winter season as needed. Incumbent is responsible for assisting the mosquito control program with sprays and larvicide application under direction of the Mosquito Control Director. Mosquito spraying services occur between the hours of dusk and dawn as weather permits within Wakulla County limits. Larvicide applications are completed during daylight hours.

  • Applies chemical with use of fogger for spraying.
  • Applies granular larvicide applications with use of backpack sprayer and distributes briquets to public and private low-lying areas as requested. 
  • Loads and unloads utility vehicle from trailer to apply larvicide in remote areas of Wakulla County.
  • Develops a drive route with use of mapping tools to efficiently complete approximately 12 sprays per night, weather permitting. 
  • Responsible for preparing spray truck with all required chemicals nightly.
  • Completes chemical application reporting weekly.
  • Completes monthly surveillance and landing count requirements by Department of Agriculture and Consumer Serevices (DACS).
  • Reports back to Mosquito Control Director on all completed requests.
  • Responsible for securing chemicals after each shift.
  • Provides quality customer service to the community.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to operate a utility trailer to haul equipment.
  • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs.
  • Ability to carry heavy equipment.
  • Ability to work nights, weekends and days as assigned to fulfill service requests.
  • Ability and willingness to physically work outdoors in extreme environmental conditions.
  • Knowledge, skill, and ability to safely handle pesticides.
  • Strong Knowledge of Wakulla geographical area, streets, and neigborhoods.

Qualifications:
Minimum - Valid Florida Driver’s License, experience operating a utility trailer and vehicle, willingness to work nights, weekends, and days as assigned. 
Preferred - Experience and knowledge handling pesticides, Knowledge of the Wakulla County geographical area.
