JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Department of Recreation, Park, and Tourism Management (RPTM) in the College of Health and Human Development is seeking a Part-time Summer Research Assistant to conduct research tasks assisting Dr. Andrew Mowen up to 20 hours a week on a Pennsylvania Conservation Career Pathways research project, which assesses the barriers and facilitators to training and placement of qualified and representative professionals in the outdoor industry in Pennsylvania.

Duties will include: conducting interviews with a sample of leaders from governmental (DCNR, PAGC, PFGC) and non-profit (PEC, PPFF, PRPS, SCA) conservation and outdoor recreation organizations. Interviews will then be transcribed, analyzed, coded, and presented in a summary report to the RPTM Department and cooperating organizations (late summer 2024). This pilot work will serve to inform a future, more generalized, quantitative study of predictors to successful conservation career placement and growth based on a sample of Pennsylvania Wildlife Leadership Academy alums.
