About the role

Job Description

The Department of Social Services (DSS) is comprised of the administrative units of the New York City Human Resources Administration (HRA) and the Department of Homeless Services (DHS). HRA is dedicated to fighting poverty and income inequality by providing New Yorkers in need with essential benefits such as Food Assistance and Emergency Rental Assistance. DHS is committed to preventing and addressing homelessness in New York City by employing a variety of innovative strategies to help families and individuals successfully exit shelter and return to self-sufficiency as quickly as possible.

Human Resources Administration/Office of the Commissioner is recruiting for one (1) Executive Assistant to the Executive Deputy Administrator (HRA) M1, to function as the Deputy Director for Not-for Profit Engagement, who will:

- Assist in the development and implementation of departmental policies and procedures. Take part
in agency-wide policy meetings with or on the behalf of the Executive Director.

- Research, evaluate and report on a broad spectrum of programmatic issues in an effort to
maximize the agency’s efficiency and effectiveness.

- Prepare and assist in the preparation of reports to governmental agencies and non-governmental
organizations involved in program operations.

- Recommend new program initiatives as deemed necessary, as well as changes in regulatory
legislation.

- Develop and implement program proposals, working directly with programs heads and Corporation
Counsel.

- Act on behalf of the executive in keeping certain appointments with individuals and groups
representing governmental and public/private organizations.

- Participate in agency and city-wide tasks forces, boards and panels. Attend staff conferences and
memoranda on both technical and administrative matters.

- Prepare non-routine correspondence and memoranda on both technical and administrative matters.

Qualifications

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university and four years of full- time, satisfactory professional experience in one or more of the following fields: program evaluation, public/business administration, public relations, labor relations, fiscal/financial administration or a related field; at least eighteen months of which must have been in an administrative, managerial or executive capacity or supervising professional personnel performing duties in one or more of the fields described immediately above; or
2. Education and/or experience equivalent to "1" above. However, all candidates must possess the eighteen months of supervisory, administrative, managerial or executive experience as described in "1" above.
