Position Objective: This position reports to the Vice Dean for Medical Education and has a primary role of providing oversight of the four-year MD WR2 curriculum for the University Program. This includes the preparation and presentation of an annual report on curriculum to the Vice Dean for Medical Education and all aspects of curricular compliance for LCME accreditation. This position is expected to be involved in several major projected curricular initiatives, including planning integration of artificial intelligence into the curriculum, expansion of preclerkship clinical education, comprehensive oversight of all clerkship rotations including coordination of city-wide clerkship activities, knowledge of the advanced clinical experiences and clinical electives, and supporting innovation in assessment including use of technology.  The Associate Dean is expected to maintain appropriate records including documented policies and procedures for LCME accreditation.  As a member of the executive leadership team of the School of Medicine, it is anticipated that this position will support the School of Medicine’s Strategic Plan and work with the Vice Dean for Medical Education to maximize resource utilization.

Essential Functions:

1)      Oversight of the WR2 curriculum includes the following responsibilities:

• Identify and coordinate a leadership team of faculty for ongoing curriculum implementation and management, including the Assistant Dean for Basic Science Curriculum, the Assistant Dean for Longitudinal Clinical Education, Assistant Deans for Clinical/Clerkship Education, and the Executive Director of Curricular Affairs.
• Ensure coordination, sequencing, and integration of content across the curriculum, including curricular mapping. Address gaps and redundancies in content.
• Ensuring that the school is using efficient and effective methods of pedagogy and is encouraging innovations of state-of-the-art methods of pedagogy.
• Ensuring that the school is using assessment methods that are consistent with program objectives including encouraging innovations of methods of assessment.
• Implementing and monitoring a rigorous quality control and improvement process for the curriculum. Support formal curriculum review processes for each block/rotation of the curriculum including action items that are shared with the students.
• Collaborate with medical education leadership and department chairs to recruit faculty for various teaching activities. Identifying faculty development needs in teaching skills, evaluation of learners, and curriculum development and working with the Center for Medical Education to design, deliver, and promote faculty development programs.
• Encouraging faculty scholarship and dissemination of the WR2 curriculum.
• Work collaboratively with the Associate Dean of Curriculum in the Lerner College Program to ensure alignment across learning objectives, assessment strategies, and benchmarks of student achievement.
• Lead phase review retreats to ensure compliance with LCME standards including comparability between the two curricular programs; co-chair the Curriculum Monitoring Committee.

2)      Role in LCME Accreditation:

• The Associate Dean for Curriculum is responsible for maintaining appropriate records for accreditation, including policy updates, documenting procedures, submission of the annual LCME questionnaire, and preparing for the LCME self-study and site visits.  The Associate Dean of Curriculum plays a major role in the LCME accreditation, curriculum monitoring, and continuous quality improvement efforts.

3)      Support of the School of Medicine’s strategic planning and financial resources.

• Seek external grants or gifts to help support medical education activities or new initiatives.
• Explore strategies to reduce the cost of medical education.
• Develop new and efficient education delivery methods to help accommodate the large MD class size with little to no impact on quality.
• Compiles the annual reports on the curriculum for the Vice Dean for Medical Education, summarizing the following areas: changes to the curriculum and the process by which those were vetted; student outcomes including performance and satisfaction; faculty teaching quality and quantity; innovations; challenges
• Maintains appropriate records for accreditation, including submission of the annual LCME questionnaire, and preparing for LCME Self Study and site-visits.
