The Role
Reporting to the Sr. Manager of Plant Engineering, this position will be the system owner of the Building Management Systems and Continuous Monitoring System at Moderna’s Manufacturing Technology Center in Norwood, MA. This position will provide engineering support for campus Building Management Systems that monitors and controls utility assets and the Continuous Monitoring System that monitors critical quality parameters. The BMS/CMS Senior Engineer will also support the Moderna Facilities team in the execution of day-to-day operation, projects, and troubleshooting of the BMS/CMS. This position will lead investigations relating to
non-conformance events in partnership with Quality, IT, and Manufacturing.
Here’s What You’ll Do
Provide direct engineering support of the BMS/CMS.
A key function of this role will include alarm management/response process oversight while aligning with applicable guidance.
Manage BMS/CMS contractors and work priorities.
Develop and maintain metrics of BMS/CMS that target company objectives.
Perform/provide data and trend analysis for systems and equipment.
Owner of the building management systems at the Norwood site to include troubleshooting BMS/CMS and equipment to determine root cause of failure modes, owning Corrective/Preventative Actions and associated change controls, providing input into preventative maintenance plans, assessing change controls, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Troubleshoot BMS protocol and network communication issues in collaboration with Moderna Digital and IT teams.
Provide a high level of customer support to the Facilities and Manufacturing teams, the BMS/CMS Senior Engineer must develop a knowledge of the utility and HVAC requirements of each of the manufacturing areas.
A key requirement of this position is the ability to collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to determine the best path forward to identified issues by balancing technical, compliance, and business objectives.
The BMS/CMS Senior Engineer needs to be able to drive results by owning and completing the subsequent projects including high quality technical writing within the required quality systems and meeting the project timelines to ensure the production schedule is not impacted.
The BMS/CMS Senior Engineer will have specific safety objectives to include proactively evaluating the safe operation of the equipment to propose and implement safety improvements. The BMS Senior Engineer must always work in a safe manner by adhering to all safety procedures and have a proactive safety mindset.
The BMS/CMS Senior Engineer will participate on project teams through all phases of engineering projects in the BMS/CMS controls areas including conceptual design, detailed design, equipment selection, construction, installation, start up, commissioning, validation, and qualification of facilities and/or equipment.
Here’s What You’ll Need (Basic Qualifications)
BS in Engineering.
8-10 years professional experience required in BMS/CMS operation. GMP facility experience required.
Experience with BACNET/MODBUS protocols.
systems preferred.
Experience with regulatory audits preferred.
Thorough understanding of ISA 18.2 Alarm Management Standard guidance and processes.
Understanding of PLC operation and programming. Ability to read, understand, and modify BMS code to improve, update, or meet sequence of operations requirements.
Here’s What You’ll Bring to the Table (Preferred Qualifications)
Experience with Delta Controls (Enteliweb) and Siemens (Desigo) system.
Experience with OSI PI and Delta V continuous monitoring systems.
Experience with Melrock and Traxx fault detection
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written) are required. Expected to be able to present work to peers and cross-functional managers and influence leadership decisions. Technical writing skills required.
Must be able use his/her technical background to investigate issues using a structured problem-solving approach to determine true root cause and develop effective corrective and preventative actions. Must be able to be able to find true root cause and path forward for complex problems.
Familiarity with Excel, Word, and PowerPoint are required, and basic statistical analysis techniques are preferred.
