Background:
UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.
The United Nations Women’s Peace and Humanitarian Fund (WPHF) is a partnership between the United Nations, Member States, and the civil society, which supports women led and women’s rights organizations working to build peace and provide humanitarian response throughout the world. Since the end of 2016, the WPHF has been supporting over 1,400 civil society organizations and is present in 46 countries worldwide.
UN Women hosts the Secretariat of WPHF within the PSR unit. Since its launch in 2016, WPHF has funded and supported the capacity of over 1,400 local and grassroots civil society organizations in 46 crisis-affected countries around the world. UN Women hosts the Secretariat of WPHF. The WPHF Secretariat provides support to the Funding Board, mobilizes resources from governments, companies, foundations, and individuals; provides day-to-day support to Country Offices implementing WPHF programmes; ensures timely and quality monitoring and reporting; and amplifies the work and impact of WPHF civil society partners around the world. In addition to its Regular Funding Cycle, which supports local interventions led by and working alongside women to contribute to peace and humanitarian action worldwide, WPHF has establish two unique financing mechanisms to respond to new and emerging crises: the Rapid Response Window for Women and Peace Processes, which was requested by the UN SG and supports women’s participation in Track 1 and 2 peace processes and the implementation of peace agreements, and the Window for Women Human Rights Defenders (WHRDs), which promotes the protection and the participation of WHRDs in crisis settings.
Effective communications and advocacy are critical to the Women, Peace and Security Agenda, especially in the current context of a pushback on human rights, increased militarization, and decreasing overseas development assistance.
Under the overall supervision of the WPHF Head of Secretariat, day-to-day supervision of the Communications and Advocacy Specialist and in close collaboration with the WPHF Coordination Specialist, the consultant will support the development and implementation of WPHF’s social media functions as part of WPHF’s wider communications and advocacy strategy
The consultants will provide monthly reports outlining activities throughout the month.

Description of Responsibilities /Scope of Work
Under the overall supervision of the WPHF Head of Secretariat and reporting directly to the Communications and Advocacy Specialist in close collaboration with the WPHF Coordination Specialist:
The Communications and Social Media Consultant will:
- Work closely with the WPHF Head of Secretariat, the Communications and Advocacy Specialist and the WPHF Coordination Specialist to strengthen the social media presence of the WPHF leadership and team.
- Collaborate with WPHF team members to prepare updates to social media platforms for WPHF leadership.
- Support the development, launch and implementation of at least one key WPHF advocacy campaign and all of its corresponding social media components.
- Support the social media promotion of partnerships with donors, key influencers or media partners.
- Assist the communications and advocacy team by contributing to the implementation of at least two major advocacy events, particularly through social media coverage and promotion.
- Assess, map and tap into relevant live conversations, calls for action, initiatives, and social media activations as it relates and pertains to social media accounts of WPHF leadership.
