Position Title:   Mobile Response Member

Program:  Community Violence Response Team (CVRT)

Classification:   Non-Exempt, Per Diem 

Salary Rate: $18.00 per hour

Location: In any of the following 6 HHSA regions: South Bay, Central San Diego, East County, North Central San Diego, North Coastal San Diego and North Inland San Diego

 

Summary and Range of Authority:  Community Violence Response Team (CVRT) program is a program funded by County of San Diego, Mental Health Services Act, Prevention and Early Intervention.  CVRT is an innovative prevention and early intervention program designed to increase family, youth, and community resiliency in neighborhood with high crime rates, gang activity and violence in San Diego. Under the direction of the CVRT Program Manager, the Mobile Response Member will provide proactive response and supportive services to youth and families exposed to trauma: gang violence, family trauma and/or domestic violence.    

 
 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Available to provide urgent support when community violence, family trauma and/or domestic violence occurs.
  • Provide supportive crisis case management services such as needs assessment, safety planning, and assistance with accessing emergency shelter, legal supports (including temporary restraining orders), and  referrals to support groups, transportation, food, and clothing.  Provide services using a case management wrap-around model that builds on a family’s strengths.
  • Assess psycho-social impact of trauma of clients and families and assist them in obtaining appropriate supportive services.
  • Address emotional effects of the community violence, family trauma and/or domestic violence on the individual, youth, family and the community. 
  • Develop safety plans for children and non-offending parents and ensure safety protocols are adhered to for victims of Domestic Violence
  • Collaborate with law enforcement, faith and community-based  organizations, schools, Probation Department, public health facilities,  the Commission on Gang Prevention and Intervention, grassroots groups with  similar missions to accomplish effective service  delivery.   
  • Participate as a member of an interdisciplinary team to promote overall wellness of victims of community violence, family trauma and/or  domestic violence and assist in accessing of available, appropriate and comprehensive resources/services.
  • Conduct public venues for children and their families and  communities to discuss the traumatic effects of violence.
  • Conduct outreach and educational activities to the community about  ACE program.
  • Administer surveys to assess needs and implement changes for  improving the program.
  • Build capacity in youth, families, and the community in gang  awareness, violence prevention, and resiliency.
  • Provide culturally appropriate and sensitive services.
  • Provide linkages to alternative activities and services for youth,  families and community.
  • Prepare documentation, reports, and records of services provided and  its outcomes.
  • Drive to multiple locations (i.e. community, client’s home, school,  UPAC office) to provide services.
  • Able to work after normal business hours and on call shifts.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Education, Certifications/Licenses and Language/Cultural Skills:

  • High school diploma or equivalent

Minimum Experience and Qualifications Required:

  • Knowledge of and experience in gang and violence prevention  activities, family trauma and/or domestic violence amongst diverse  population.
  • Knowledge and experience in working with individuals, children,  adolescents and families in multi-cultural settings.
  • Ability to provide crisis intervention, consultation, education,  advocacy, community organization and follow up services.
  • Must be comfortable in discussing issues such as suicide, homicide,  domestic violence, trauma and other sensitive issues
  • Ability to prepare written reports and records of services rendered.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality with regard to sensitive or proprietary information or materials.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to interact effectively and professionally with the public.
  • Ability to work independently, as well as cooperatively as a member  of the multi-disciplinary team and inter-agency collaborative.
  • Ability to use sound judgment and function effectively and calmly in stressful situations or times of crisis.
