DJJ is committed to excellence in public safety by providing effective interventions that improve the lives of youth, strengthening both families and communities within the Commonwealth.

The Business and Information Technology Teacher role is located within the Yvonne B. Miller High School at the Bon Air Juvenile Correctional Center. The individual selected for this position will provide quality educational programming through sound instruction to meet the individual needs of residents/students, as well as the standards defined under the Commonwealth’s statutes and program certification requirements. This position will provide instruction and engage students in a quality, competency-based program preparing students for entry-level employment and/or post-secondary education.

The selected candidate must be able to successfully complete the Department of Juvenile Justice-mandated training and certifications, including the three-week DJJ Basic Skills for Security.

Minimum Qualifications

-Must possess or be eligible for a Virginia Teaching License from the Virginia Department of Education with an endorsement in business and information technology.
-Classroom experience teaching a career and technical education course
-Experience developing and instructing students of various education levels using concepts
-Knowledge of content, curriculum, methods, materials, and equipment to successfully perform the work.
-Considerable demonstrated knowledge of principles and methodologies of business education.
-Demonstrated knowledge and/or experience teaching courses in the Virginia CTE Business and Information Technology Career Cluster.
- Ability to supervise students and youth, facilitate appropriate classroom management, and maintain accurate records.
- Experience working with diverse student populations.
