Lead Photographer, Advancement-Marketing

SUMMARY

In support of the university’s mission and objectives, the Lead Photographer serves as the key creative professional responsible for all aspects of photo production, from coordinating shoots, capturing images, and managing assets. This role leads the execution of campus photography initiatives, from pre-production through final delivery, and ensures that all imagery reflects the university’s values, visual standards, and brand identity. The Lead Photographer manages the day-to-day operations of photo production and provides direction to student photographers and freelance contributors.

Visual Brand Execution

Captures compelling, high-quality photos for a wide range of needs, including marketing campaigns, events, social media, product launches, and editorial content.
Proactively identifies opportunities to strengthen visual storytelling and elevate the university’s brand through photography.
Serves as a brand ambassador, ensuring photography aligns with the company’s brand identity, visual standards, and tone.
Collaborates with marketing, design, and public relations teams to maintain consistency in lighting, composition, and styling across all imagery.
Edits, retouches, and prepares images to meet brand standards and ensure consistency across platforms.
Develops and maintains photography style guides and visual reference documents for internal and external photographers.
Approves final imagery to ensure brand cohesion before distribution or publication.
Oversees image quality control, usage rights, and compliance with brand guidelines.
Assists with image selection, metadata tagging, and archiving within the university’s digital asset management system.
Stays current with photography trends, techniques, and best practices to contribute creative ideas.

Photo Production & Operational Oversight

Coordinates and executes all aspects of photo production including scheduling, location scouting, and equipment preparation.
Leads logistics for on-campus and off-campus photoshoots, including securing permissions and managing shoot timelines.
Collaborates with departments across campus to align visual needs with marketing strategies.
Provides creative direction to student photographers and freelance talent to ensure quality and consistency.
Maintains photoshoot calendars, secures location permits, and coordinates booking details.
Manages photo budgets, monitors project costs, and recommends equipment upgrades or resource investments.
Maintains a well-organized, accessible photo archive and ensures the timely delivery of final imagery.
Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

EDUCATION:

Post high school training, required; Bachelor's degree preferred, or equivalent experience.

EXPERIENCE:

3+ years’ experience coordinating photography or creative projects, and an understanding of photography techniques, equipment and production workflows, required. Proficiency with digital asset management systems and photo editing software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite), preferred. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
