The Impact You Will Make
In this role you will assist in developing the communications strategy for public affairs campaigns. You will work closely with clients to identify their needs or challenges and recommend targeted, bespoke solutions. You love thinking through how to craft and carry messages, pitch reporters, developing written copy that inspires, synthesizing results into actionable solutions, and deriving energy from working in a close-knit, cross functional team environment. You are eager to give clients a new way to tell their impact stories, helping them reach their audiences and achieve their business objectives.
- Salary range: $64,000 - $70,000
- Location: Expectation to work from DC, New York, Chicago, SF or LA offices at least 3 days a week
What the Day-to-Day Looks Like
1. Client Support & Execution
Support client engagements and assist with day-to-day account activities under the guidance of senior team members. Contribute to strategy execution by helping ensure projects stay on track, timelines are met, and all plans ladder back up to broader goals. Assist in coordinating deliverables and reviewing work products to support quality and timeliness. Participate in client meetings as appropriate and help prepare materials for key engagement moments.
2. Team Collaboration
Work collaboratively with cross functional team members to manage assigned tasks and workloads. Support teammates in meeting client objectives and project goals on a day-to-day basis, while being open to feedback and professional development opportunities.
3. Communications & Strategy Support
Assist in drafting and executing communications plans across earned, owned, events, and stakeholder engagement channels. Support media outreach efforts, including pitching stories and tracking coverage, and help maintain media lists and reporter research. Contribute to the development of owned and social content to ensure alignment with broader campaign efforts. Draft and edit written materials such as briefing documents, press releases, advisories, blog posts, and social content. Support presentations for clients and help identify opportunities to add value to client engagements in partnership with senior team members. The types of projects you may be working on could include:
- Develop initial communications strategies for local, regional, national, and/or global audiences
- Draft press releases, blogs, op-eds, briefing documents, organic content, and other communications materials with limited revision needed
- Continue to develop and maintain relationships with influential media to secure and grow coverage
- Use existing press contacts at a variety of levels and across various beats
- Pitch and secure press coverage for clients with ease
- Plan and assist in executing events and key moments for clients
Requirements
What You Bring:
- 3+ years of public affairs, strategic communications or public relations experience, preferably in a communications agency, nonprofit, political or corporate communications setting
- Exceptional presentation, writing and analytical skills and the ability to write both strategically and creatively under tight timelines
- Proven project management experience
Preferred Skills
- Strong writing and editing capabilities
- Media relations experience and existing reporter relationships is a plus
- Knowledge of AP style
- Knowledge of Cision or Meltwater is a plus
