About the role

Overview

The Senior Attorney supports the VP, Associate General Counsel with legal research and counsel regarding healthcare and non-healthcare legal and regulatory issues of the company, as well as contract drafting, reviews, and negotiations with government and commercial healthcare clients. The position will also provide counsel and legal support to business units regarding Medicare Recovery Audit Contract (RAC) and other government healthcare program business, as well as other existing and emerging regulatory schemes applicable to the company.

Responsibilities

  • Providing counsel regarding company healthcare and non-healthcare legal and regulatory issues, including conducting legal research, and preparation of correspondence, communications, and other documents relating to company legal matters.
  • Coordination with RAC support staff, including doctors, nurses, and appeals coordinators to address legal issues that may arise with RAC program business, hearings, and appeals, provide legal training to RAC support staff as needed, and research and update RAC appeal materials as needed.
  • Negotiating, writing, and executing agreements and contracts on behalf of the company, including advising and counseling executives on contract status, legal risks, and the legal liabilities associated with different deals.
  • Working with other departments within the company to minimize legal risk exposure and completing all special legal projects and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Law school degree (JD) and active bar membership
  • 8-10 years of experience gained in a large law firm and/or in-house setting.
  • Deep understanding of healthcare regulations at the state and federal level
  • Experience with legal issues related to HIPAA, privacy/data use, emerging AI regulations, consumer protection laws, TCPA, and federal healthcare programs, including Medicare regulations and requirements.
  • Proficient with federal government contract review, drafting, and negotiations, including familiarity with Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR) and other relevant government contracting rules and regulations.
  • Knowledge of intellectual property regulatory frameworks (Patent, Copyright, Trademarks, Trade Secrets)
  • Ability to establish and maintain strong relationships within the organization’s legal department and across all businesses.
  • Strong interpersonal and presentation skills, along with the ability to communicate effectively with others at all levels of the organization.
  • Strong negotiating skills with both legal and financial/commercial issues
  • Ability to work independently with little or no supervision and be available and responsive to legal team members and business units in a remote working environment.
  • Detail oriented with ability to proactively analyze, problem solve, organize, and manage multiple priorities and excellent follow up skills in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to meet deadlines.
  • Presents information and ideas in a thoughtful and compelling manner; is clear and concise in verbal and written communications.
  • The ability to learn and excel in a fast-paced and complex environment.
  • The ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Remaining in a stationary position, often standing, or sitting for prolonged periods.

  • Assessing the accuracy, neatness and thoroughness of the work assigned.
  • No adverse environmental conditions expected.
  • Must be able to provide a dedicated, secure work area.
  • Must be able to provide high-speed internet access / connectivity and office setup and maintenance.

Base compensation ranges from $135,000 to $160,000. Specific offers are determined by various factors, such as experience, education, skills, certifications, and other business needs.
