Earth Systems is seeking a leadership-driven and self-motivated Construction Materials Laboratory Supervisor based out of our Hollister office.
The Construction Materials Laboratory Supervisor position requires establishing, managing, maintaining and supervising all equipment, materials and activities related to the laboratory (lab) and laboratory testing; developing/strengthening client and project manager relationships, with a focus on delivering error-free materials testing services; support project managers scope of work development, estimating, and proposal preparation.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a construction materials testing laboratory, with a focus on concrete, asphalt, soil, and aggregates.
- Strong knowledge of testing procedures and standards, such as ASTM, AASHTO, and ACI.
- Proficient in operating and maintaining laboratory equipment.
- Technical competence to interpret and effectively communicate test procedures, specifications, and results.
- Strong leadership abilities to train and mentor junior laboratory technicians.
- Must work well and at a productive pace under pressure, meeting multiple and sometimes conflicting deadlines
- Must, at all times, demonstrate cooperative behavior with colleagues and supervisors
- Math, analytical, and writing skills are required and must be willing to “learn by doing.”
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Fundamental experience working with MS Office 365, including Excel, Word and SharePoint
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform routine to complex lab testing including soils, aggregates, concrete, asphalt, masonry, and steel materials.
- Ensure that the technical activities of the lab technicians are performed adequately and efficiently.
- Communicate with internal and external stakeholders to successfully and profitably deliver laboratory services on a consistent basis.
- Analyze test data, interpret results, and prepare comprehensive reports summarizing findings.
- Calibrating and maintaining lab equipment
- Maintaining laboratory certifications and accreditations, and coordinating with certifying and accrediting organizations
- Managing, developing, and mentoring laboratory technicians
- Keeping the laboratory organized and in compliance with QA/QC initiatives
- Development of construction quality control programs and implementation
- Ensure project deadlines are met by providing proper scheduling and coordination of items to be tested.
- Maintains a clean and orderly laboratory environment adhering to safety protocols and procedures.
- Maintains laboratory records and assigns tracking numbers for sample quality control.
- Perform other related duties and responsibilities.
Education and Licensure/Certifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Material Science, or a related field
- ACI certifications: Aggregate Testing Technician, Aggregate/Soils Base Testing Technician, Concrete Strength Testing Technician, Concrete-Field Testing Technician, Concrete Laboratory Testing Technician
- NICET: Construction Materials Testing: Asphalt, Concrete, Soils
- Caltrans: JTCP Soils and Aggregate; JTCP HMA I & II
