This position reports to the Controller, Americas & Corporate and is responsible for the design, development, and delivery of the General Ledger strategy and process performance for the global organization in line with the overall CAO strategy. Responsibilities include accountability for the end to end accounting of designated General Ledger and Intercompany process areas. This position has direct leadership of the General Accounting team based in the regional centers responsible for a wide range of accounting activity (including but not limited to cash accounting; manual billings; utility and service accruals & settlements, and the supporting analysis required to validate asset and liability balances).
A Day In The Life:
- Lead and mentor direct reports globally in delivering accurate, efficient and effective general ledger accounting services in accordance with corporate policies and regulatory requirements.
- Establish and maintain processes which ensure transactional accounting accuracy and accountability, identify issues, perform root cause analysis and establish appropriate mitigation plans to drive issues to closure. Document current state identifying cross functional disconnects and interface issues.
- Work effectively with a wide range of cross functional groups to identify and prioritize issues and process opportunities and propose effective solutions.
- Represent General Accounting as a SME to ensure appropriate implementation of agreed improvement solutions. Drive effective cross functional teams to establish and embed continuous improvement across a wide spectrum of General Accounting activities
- Develop, implement and maintain appropriate global accounting procedures and process controls in accordance with Sarbanes Oxley and Internal Controls.
- Able to influence senior management decisions that have an impact on process effectiveness.
- Strong understanding of the business and finance processes within the Petrochemicals business model, highly desirable.
You Bring This Value:
- Bachelor’s degree required, accounting or related discipline preferred.
- At least 10+ years of experience in finance and strong evidence of leading an operational finance department.
- In-depth understanding of technical US GAAP and IFRS across a variety of topics is required.
- Experience with Internal Controls and SOX/404 requirements.
- Experience in a global, fast-paced, dynamic and deadline driven environment.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills essential given diverse nature of operating landscape and cultural sensitivities.
- Passion for driving continuous improvements.
- Understanding of the business and finance processes within the Petrochemicals business model, highly desirable.
- Previous participation in the configuration, design and testing of SAP Financial Application experience preferred.
- Ability to multi task and meet aggressive deadlines.
- Ability to operate with a high degree of integrity and will be expected to work on confidential projects.
- Ability to influence management decisions and behaviors that have an impact on process effectiveness.
- Strong computer skills and proficiency in MS Office Suite including Word, Excel, Visio, and PowerPoint.
- Extensive user of ERP systems (ideally SAP).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Understanding of the business and finance processes within the Petrochemicals business model, highly desirable.
- CPA or international equivalent.
- Experience of working in different international geographical regions.
