In December of 2017, Banner University Medical Center -BUMC - Phoenix (1111 E McDowell Rd, Phoenix, AZ 85006) opened a new 40 bed Observation Unit. The Observation unit will allow our team to deliver the safest and highest quality care to our customers. Come join our Observation team making healthcare easier.
As a Certified Patient Care Assistant - CPCA in the Observation Unit (PCU) at BUMC-Banner University Medical Center-Phoenix you fill a universal need by providing a setting of care for patients not requiring an inpatient admission to receive additional diagnostic workup or therapeutic intervention beyond the scope of a typical Emergency Department visit. The growth of observation medicine has been driven by innovations in healthcare, an ongoing shift of patients from inpatient to outpatient settings. Observation medicine encompasses the management of appropriate patients for a timeframe of 6 to 24 hours in order to assess their need for inpatient admission or discharge them home. Relative to traditional admission, studies have shown this alternative to have several beneficial health care outcomes. As a patient care assistant on this unit, you will work directly with the unit RN staff to help deliver quality care to our patients and their families; leading to successful, optimal outcomes using the latest procedures and state of the art equipment.
- Full-Time Night Shift (3 -12 hour shifts) -
- Shift Hours are from 7:30pm-7am (Nights)
- Varied Shifts = could be working days nights, weekends. There are no set days you can be scheduled each week
- Weekend Rotations are required in this role. (should be every 3rd weekend)
- Rotating Holidays Required - 1 major and 1 minor
- Enjoy a flat rate $1/hour weekend shift differential and an 18%-Night Shift differential when applicable
POSITION SUMMARY
This position provides routine patient care to promote patient comfort and contribute to the overall patient plan of care. This position is responsible for on-going patient data collection and documentation in the medical records and provides a variety of unit support functions which contribute to the overall efficient operation of the nursing unit/department.
CORE FUNCTIONS
1. Provides assistance in activities of daily living and completes necessary tasks to promote patient health, including assisting patients with basic hygiene needs, maintaining an optimum level of mobility and providing assistance with nutritional intake as needed.
2. Collects patient specimens and data, including vital signs, input/output and other delegated measurements in accordance with unit/facility policy and standards of care. Documents objective data and routine aspects of patient care. Assists in the transportation of patient specimens.
3. Recognizes and reports abnormalities and/or changes in the patient’s health status and responses to treatment to a licensed professional. Promotes continuity of care by accurately and completely communicating to other caregivers the status of patients for which care is provided.
4. Performs procedures and uses equipment as delegated by a licensed professional, consistent with demonstrated competencies and according to state scope of practice; procedures may include blood draws,
