(Boston office)
The Attorney General is looking for a highly motivated individual to serve as Paralegal in the Division of Open Government within the Government Bureau. The Division of Open Government’s primary responsibility is statewide enforcement of the Open Meeting Law, G.L. c. 30A, § 18-25, which requires transparency in public body deliberations. The Division provides training and guidance on the Open Meeting Law’s requirements and investigates and resolves complaints alleging violations of the Open Meeting Law. The Division also handles certain enforcement duties under the Public Records Law, G.L. c. 66, § 10.
Primary Duties: The Paralegal provides critical case management, clerical, and administrative support to the Division of Open Government. The Paralegal will have the opportunity to be a key member of the Division and will work closely with all members of the team, and especially with the Acting Director. Duties will include, but are not limited to:
· Logging, tracking, and managing a high volume of cases, including tracking deadlines and communicating with complainants and public bodies about those deadlines.
· Reviewing complaints and responses to prepare case notes to present to attorneys for assignment.
· Reviewing and disseminating Open Meeting Law decisions.
· Corresponding with members of the public, members of public bodies, municipal officials, and legal counsel.
· Responding to requests for information and general guidance regarding the requirements of the Open Meeting Law on the Division’s helpline.
· Supporting the Division’s trainings, including by working with our IT department to schedule and set up webinars.
· Assisting with hiring and oversight of the Division’s interns and co-ops.
· Maintaining the Division’s calendar, including entering trainings, helpline assignments, time off, and special events.
· Providing administrative support to the Open Meeting Law Advisory Commission.
· Performing other duties as assigned.
Position Type: Full-Time/Non-Exempt .
Location: The Paralegal hired for this position will work out of the AGO’s Boston Office. Our hybrid
model may include some telework days for the successful applicant.
Salary: $55,375
