The Sr Principal Engineer – Software is the classification typically reserved for a single incumbent or a limited number of individuals with highly developed specialties in research and development or design area.
YOUR IMPACT:
- Develop and implement features for deployed robotic systems
- Write clean, well-tested software with documentation in C++
- Test new algorithms and code on the hardware.
- Help automate our robot bring up - from calibration to system testing
- Address bugs and find solutions that meet the needs of our customers.
- Release testing for our software and firmware releases
- Build and maintain machine learning pipelines
- Responsible for completion of a complex project on time.
- Will be responsible for overall project schedule and budget.
- Responsible for managing multiple priorities.
- Collaborate as needed with other engineering business support disciplines internally as well as suppliers externally.
- May have exposure to the external customers and/or industry organizations.
- Provide guidance or mentorship to entry level engineers working on a common project.
- Perform and check complex engineering calculations, investigations, and tasks as assigned according to Oshkosh, as well as general industry, engineering standards and processes.
- Responsible for the preparation and delivery of complex plans, designs, computation methods, and/or reporting.
- Research, create, and update standard engineering methodology and procedures - best practices, etc.
- Plans and directs the technical aspects of the most highly complex research and development programs.
- Synthesizes and analyzes studies which required application of advanced knowledge in a specific field.
- May provide project direction and technical counsel to lower-level engineers.
- Research, study, and propose the use of new technologies to be used in the development of new and improved products.
- Prepare technical proposals and presentations.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Regular attendance is required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Accredited Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field with eight (8) or more years of related experience.
STANDOUT QUALIFICATIONS:
- Accredited Master’s degree in computer science, Computer or Electrical Engineering.
- Familiarity with JSON, Python, and SQL database.
- Proficient in C++ and Python and ability to port code between Python and C++, and vice versa
- Experience debugging, doing code reviews and unit testing
- Ability to automate software that runs on a CI system
- Passionate about autonomous systems and robotics
- Preferably experience working on a robotics software stack with things like ROS2, robotic arms, and rigid transforms
- Experience in one autonomy related topic (perception, navigation, planning, machine learning, AI)
