Recreation Leader I - VPK ProgramSchedule: Monday–Friday, between 7:00 AM and 6:00 PM (8-hour shifts vary throughout the week)
Location: City of Largo – Recreation, Parks, and Arts Department Highland
Position Summary:
We are seeking a caring and motivated individual to support the development and daily operations of the City of Largo’s VPK (Voluntary Prekindergarten) program. This position plays a key role in fostering a positive, engaging, and developmentally appropriate environment for young learners. In addition to supporting the VPK classroom, the role includes planning, supervising, and participating in a variety of leisure and recreational activities.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist in the implementation and enhancement of the VPK curriculum
Support classroom routines and child development activities
Collaborate with instructional staff to ensure a safe and nurturing learning environment
Plan and lead recreational and leisure programs as needed
Follow departmental policies and contribute to program improvement
Supervision:
Work is performed with some independence under the direction of an assigned supervisor, following established policies and procedures.

Management
• Effectively manages assignments and priorities to ensure the fulfillment of projects, tasks, and responsibilities
• Follows suggested procedures to ensure the highest standards of risk management, employee safety, and risk avoidance
Technical
• Plans and executes leisure activities such as sports, arts and crafts, drama, special events, environmental education, tours, field trips, etc.; participates in teaching one or more leisure activities; may supervise a group of children, including planning activities and administering discipline in a camp situation or after school program
• Opens, closes, and secures the facility and ensures all rules and regulations of the facilities are enforced; ensures all precautions are taken in maintaining participant’s safety; assures the safety, welfare, and well-being of children enrolled in programs
• Assists in training staff and volunteers
• Inputs and retrieves data from the computer
• Maintains communication between customers and other staff
• Supports the division and the department in external activities
• Processes documents and applications pertaining to membership and registrations
