UBC Continuing Professional Development (UBC CPD), in partnership with the Department of Orthopaedics, at the Faculty of Medicine invites applications for a full-time Research Associate position. The successful candidate will lead the development of a Continuing Professional Development (CPD) program of research to advance UBC CPD’s vision of optimal health for everyone through continuing professional development. The CPD program of research endeavors to contribute to quality improvement processes to ensure that CPD’s programs are effective and conducive to the best learning experience for health professionals. Further, the research program aims to better understand CPD’s role in improving the delivery of patient care and health outcomes.

UBC CPD is an academic Division of the Faculty of Medicine, offers hundreds of continuing professional development activities each year — large medical conferences, online courses and webinars, skills-based workshops and mentoring programs. UBC CPD is a leader in medical education with a strong reputation in British Columbia and beyond. UBC CPD is at the forefront of providing effective and innovative approaches to learning and has a unique platform to influence meaningful change through connection, education and research that support the lifelong learning of health professionals.

The Department of Orthopaedics has an international reputation for excellence in teaching, research and patient care. Its mission is to create knowledge, advance learning, and improve musculoskeletal health for the community at the provincial, national, and international levels. The Department consists of seven clinical divisions and a division of Orthopaedic research, and is comprised of 200+ academic and clinical faculty who choose to contribute large blocks of their time to advance knowledge in the areas of clinical Orthopaedics, musculoskeletal science as well as applied biomedical engineering and related basic science areas.

This position will be reporting to the Dr. Brenna Lynn, Associate Dean, CPD and Dr. Nelson Greidanus, Assistant Professor, Dept of Orthopaedics. In addition, this position will have the opportunity to work closely with Scientists and Scholars from Centre of Health Educational Scholarships (CHES).

The Research Associate will oversee a scholarly program of research in the area of CPD within the UBC Division of CPD. The successful candidate will support staff and faculty interested in CPD research in designing methodology, analyzing data, reporting findings and will initiate their own research. They will work with considerable latitude, build and oversee the research program while working closely with the medical education professionals within the Faculty.

The successful candidate will be responsible for, but not limited to, providing oversight for all research and evaluation activities for UBC CPD initiatives for health professionals; stimulating CPD research focusing on practice improvement and knowledge translation; collaborating with other education researchers and clinical leaders regarding relevant research programs and projects, particularly with CHES; designing, planning and executing research projects; publishing research findings in peer-reviewed publications as a first or as a supporting author as appropriate to the project; preparing and coordinating grant applications; developing reports and manuscripts for publication; preparing and delivering presentations for research meetings; participating in and leads team and working group meetings; helping educate, mentor and supervise trainees, research assistants, and students, who are working on related projects; designing and performing experiments, analyzing results, and presenting findings; supporting the designing and implementation of new research projects; presenting research at international conferences; helping to enhance a collaborative research environment; ensuring all team members receive relevant orientation and training pertaining to CPD research; acting as an advisor to leadership, identifies research strategy and collaborative opportunities for scholarship; and contributing to d
