SUMMARY
Health Club Supervisors are responsible for maintaining a safe and enjoyable environment for Grand Traverse Resort and Spa guests, members, and residents. The position will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the GTRS Beach Club, Governors Pool, and Health Club staff. The supervisor will oversee recreation activities, coach staff members through constant encouragement, ensure staff adhere to GTRS policies and procedures, and guests receive the best possible customer service.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Ability to appropriately assign/delegate work and authority to others in the accomplishment of goals; provides coaching, advice, and assistance as required; helps subordinates overcome obstacles and deals with problems; appropriately assesses contributions and performance of employees; provides appropriate recognition; and deals with problems as they arise
• Ability to manage difficult guest situations; responds promptly to guest needs, solicit guest feedback to improve service, responds to requests for service and assistance and meets commitments
• Oversee all departmental operations and training
• Attend meetings and any work operations shifts as needed
• Assist with the coordination, design, and implementation of group team building events and act as backup for Lifeguards, Activities Desk, and Pool Attendants when needed
• Assist with the coordination/design/implementation of group team building events
• Maintain, submit and report all inventory information; Order all food and beverages for the Activities Desk
• Coordinate with Housekeeping and Engineering to ensure that the facility is clean and in working order making sure the proper number of linens and other supplies are available as needed by walking the entire facility daily
• Promote Member recognition and loyalty throughout the department
• Conduct walkthroughs of the Recreational operation to ensure cleanliness, maintenance of facility and maintenance of equipment daily using checklist provided
• Maintain superior working relations with internal and external customers while providing a memorable experience
• Ensure personal accountability for all work duties, assignments, and performance expectations
• Lead by example by displaying a readiness to respond positively to instruction and procedures
• Provide and receive feedback in a positive manner, earning respect from others by consistently displaying a positive attitude and behaviors
• Adhere to uniform and personal appearance standards set forth by the Employee Handbook
• Exemplify and model GTRS Core Values
• Adhere to and ensure employee accountability for GTRS policies, procedures, and standards
• Comply with all workplace health and safety operating and reporting procedures including OSHA and MIOSHA
• All other duties as assigned
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
• 1 year of previous supervisory experience; or a minimum of 2 years in a customer service position
• Certified Lifeguard or ability to obtain within 1 month of employment
• Experience working with Microsoft operating systems

• Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
• Motivated with a positive attitude and perform effectively under high pressure/volume
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Directly supervises all performers within the Recreation Department
• Responsibilities may include training, directing, planning, appraising performance, rewarding, coaching and counseling, addressing complaints, and resolving problems
• Administer policies and procedures fairly and consistently amongst all employees
• Ability to create a motivating climate, set and communicate job expectations, achieve teamwork, train and develop others, and measure work in progress
• Utilize appropriate coaching, counseling, and disciplinary methods
• Lead by example by displaying a readiness to respond positively to instruction and procedures
• Listen to and solve employee problems effectively, timely, and efficiently
• Ensure paperwork (evaluations, schedules, purchase orders, timesheets, employee documentation, etc) is handled in a timely and efficie
