About Sunset Senior Living: Our beautiful eleven-acre campus at 418 Washington Street offers 132 licensed beds for health care services in the main building. The Villa complex, located just across the street from the main building, offers 16 condo-type apartments. Additionally, Sunset Apartments located at 301 North 8th Street offers independent living to seniors in a 92 unit apartment building. 


Overview of Position: We are looking for a dedicated and experienced Director of Accounting to join our team at Sunset Senior Living. This key role is essential for maintaining our organization’s financial health, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting, and overseeing all aspects of our accounting operations. The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Business Administration and have at least 2 years of experience in general accounting, AP/AR, P&L, bank reconciliation, and controlling. Proficiency with microcomputers, data entry, output, and system applications is required.

Purpose of your position:

The primary purpose of your job position is to direct all financial affairs of the facility using generally accepted accounting principles, including accounting, payroll, business office, purchasing, billing and reimbursement, credit and collections, and other financial matters as directed by the Administrator.                    



Major Job Duties & Responsibilities: 

  • Plan, develop, organize, implement, evaluate, and direct the financial affairs of the facility under the direction of the Administrator.
  • Supervise and direct the activities of the accounting department using generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Establish and maintain financial objectives and policies and the corresponding written policies and procedures.
  • Review the facility’s financial objectives, policies and procedures periodically, at least annually, and make recommendations to the Administrator.
  • Develop and produce monthly and year-end financial statements, annual budgets, and cash flow. Present these to the Administrator and assist that office in interpreting and utilizing the financial data.
  • Maintain a working relationship with all department directors and assist them in developing and using financial data as appropriate.
  • Verify payment of invoices on a timely basis.
  • Prepare monthly totals of open invoices, accounts payable, cash disbursements, etc., as may be directed.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all pertinent information in accordance with the Privacy Act, as well as our established policies and procedures.
  • Interpret and present the facility’s accounting policies and procedures to employees, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies, etc., as necessary.
  • Attend meetings of the governing board of directors as required by the Administrator.
  • Review entries in all ledgers periodically, to ensure accuracy and compliance with generally accepted accounting principles and any relevant regulations.
  • Review and develop a plan of correction for any accounting deficiencies noted during survey inspections and provide a written copy of such plan to the Administrator.
  • Delegate such financial authority, responsibility, and accountability to others as is necessary to complete all functions of the position listed in this job description and any others that are necessary or directed by the Administrator. 


Requirements

Education Requirements

  • Must have a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Business Administration.

Experience

  • Must have a minimum of one year accounting experience in health care financial administration.

Specific Requirements

  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
  • Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
  • Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel and the general public.
