Job Description

The role is a critical part of the Technology & Operations leadership team at NBC4/T44 in Washington, DC.  The ideal candidate will have demonstrated advanced capability in the design, implementation and management of broadcast Engineering and IT technologies and operational models within a mission critical broadcasting environment, specifically in Local News. The candidate will focus on excellence, quality and enhancing capabilities, both technology and staff

Job Duties:

  • Help oversee the end-to-end delivery of all the Station core broadcast and IT infrastructure that are in daily use
  • Manage, support, troubleshoot, enhance, and upgrade our mission critical Systems
  • In depth understanding of Station’s IT environment and all core systems and infrastructure
  • Liaise with corporate IT and ensure adherence to company policies, security practices & standards
  • Leverage new technology to develop innovative solutions for complex architecture and operational challenges
  • Lead and manage multiple projects from conceptual stage through design to launch including budget tracking and reporting
  • Maintain the reliability of all critical on-air systems with zero downtime as the goal
  • Develop new workflows designed to improve quality and reduce flaws
  • Design and implement permanent technical solutions
  • Responsible for the management and tracking of all department assets
  • Assist in strategic planning and initiatives, including completion of annual operating and Capital budgets
  • Risk Management: Assess all issues, adds, changes to mitigate impact to station
  • Manage issue tracking in SharePoint and ensure Root Cause analysis and prompt closure of open tickets.
  • Make new technology recommendations, identify best practices, and establish high operating standards
  • Develop and document (SOP’s and Engineering Documents) best operational practices and ensure adherence
  • Adhere to and implementation of strict change management procedures
  • Help grow and develop Engineering and IT staff
  • Interface with all levels of management & user community
  • Work closely with key business unit leaders
  • Forge and foster positive relationships with Infrastructure & support teams external to WRC (e.g. Facilities, Broadcast Operations/Engineering, Corporate IT)
  • Seek opportunities to reduce spend/increase newsgathering efficiency by implementation of smart technology

Qualifications

Basic Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of managing mission critical Broadcast / IT environments at a TV Station: preferably in News
  • Must be willing to work onsite in Washington, D.C.
  • Must be 18 years or older
  • Must have unrestricted work authorization to work in the United States
  • Must be available on evenings and some weekends, on call 24/7
  • Travel as needed

Desired Characteristics

  • Proven track record in WAN / LAN networking and security management including remote sites in conjunction with Corp IT.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of cutting-edge IT technologies including SMPTE 2110 architecture and workflows, NMOS protocol and familiarity with JT-NM initiatives
  • Working knowledge and understanding of complex systems including: ATSC On-Air systems; Automation, Studios, Control Rooms; Communications technologies, monitoring and internet technologies
  • Working knowledge of Newsroom Production Systems. Experience with Dalet Galaxy heavily desired
  • Working knowledge of edit systems, including Adobe Premiere and After Effects
  • Working knowledge of Service Now for asset tracking and reporting
