Sr. Instructional Technologist

Reporting to the Executive Director of Online and Distance Learning, we are seeking a Sr. Instructional Technologist who will support and manage relevant instructional technology resources in the design, development, and delivery of SAIS online courses. This position will also provide support to on-ground technology-enhanced courses for graduate education at SAIS in Washington, and as appropriate with SAIS Europe and Nanjing centers.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
Online Course Design and Development (20%)
- Develop online courses sites within the learning management system in collaboration with the course-assigned instructional designer and according to approved course design standards.
- Assist course-assigned instructional designer with the preparation and production of recorded audio/video lectures.
- Manage the copying and readiness of all online course shells for each academic term.
- Ensure that online courses are ready to launch on the first day of each new academic term, meeting course structure guidelines, and reporting any discrepancies.
- Collaborate with Instructional Designer in Evaluating the instructional effectiveness of programs, courses, and training products.
- Create and maintain the Online & Distance Learning website.
- Knowledge of and the ability to apply Section 508, UDL, and accessibility standards for online learning environments, as well as familiarity with assistive technologies used with online course production and delivery.
Faculty & Staff Technology Support (35%)
- Provide faculty and student helpdesk support by responding in a timely manner to request for assistance in using various instructional technologies.
- Provide ongoing support to instructional designers and instructors in the building/deployment of online courses.
- Troubleshoot online course functionality such discussion boards, surveys, quizzes, assignments, exams, course-multimedia.
- Provide one-on-one technology and instructional support and training to faculty teaching face-to-face, hybrid, and where appropriate, online courses.
- Liaise with central Hopkins in the integration of external computer applications and systems and troubleshoot integration problems.
- Lead and mentor tech support student assistant(s) in providing support to faculty and students enrolled in online programs.
- Maintain records of tech support requests and share trend report at the end of each semester with supervisor.
- Provide end of semester reports to supervisor regarding technical and instructional support activities and provide advice on the strategic, tactical and operational issues with instructional technology at SAIS.
- Provide general information and support on the use of the new technologies to all relevant SAIS stakeholders.
Faculty Development (15%)
- Collaborate with ODL instructional designers in developing and implementing faculty and staff training workshop.
- Create and maintain online resources for faculty in areas of best practices for use of learning technologies and online teaching and learning pedagog Advocate effective use of academic technology tools (i.e. LMS, multimedia, testing, evaluation) and methodologies to improve teaching, both classroom-based and online to faculty and staff.
Instructional Technologies (25%)
- Maintain the JHU SAIS evaluation kit site and create and roll-out evaluations for SAIS online, hybrid, on-ground courses.
- Create summative reports on class evaluation results and share with supervisor at the end of each semester.
- Serve as SAISβ LMS administrator, staying current on all LMS system upgrades/changes and perform other related duties as needed.
- Collaborate with other JHU academic technologists on best practices and act as the liaison for SAIS Wider Academic Technology Community.
- Research and evaluate course management solutions and other new and emerging instructional technologies, and participate in transitional efforts, including redesign of training plans and materials should SAIS/JHU decide to change software platforms in the future.
- When needed. find new software to support academic technology.
- Maintain invoices, purchases and other instructional technology related purchase documentations.
Other tasks as assigned (5%)
