About the role
About Quizlet:
Inspired by our belief that anyone can learn anything and powered by our own curiosity, we build the smartest tools we can imagine to help students learn.
Quizlet is the popular, global learning platform and app that millions of students, teachers and everyday people use to study any subject imaginable for school, work or as part of their personal interests -- including two-thirds of high school students and half of all college students in the US. Combining cognitive science and machine learning, Quizlet guides students through adaptive study activities to confidently reach their learning goals. We’re on track to become the undisputed leader in user-generated learning content and engagement, at the scale of YouTube.
Valued at $1 billion, Quizlet has raised over $60 million in venture capital from investors including Icon Ventures, Union Square Ventures, General Atlantic, Costanoa Ventures, Owl Ventures, and Altos Ventures.
To serve our global community of learners, our teams tackle lofty technical challenges and design for use cases across cultures and languages. We work hard, act like owners, and collaborate every chance we get. We’re energized by the potential to power more learners through multiple approaches and various tools.
About the Team:
The Quizlet Data Engineering is split into three “pillars”: Data Stores, Core Data, and Data Services. Together we provide stewardship of the company’s lifeblood: its data; and provide innovative solutions to meeting the current and future data needs of America’s most trusted education technology brand. We operate as three teams, but hold significant ceremonies together, and lean into cross-training on each others’ areas. We like to pair programs, love to provide excellent customer service to our internal customers, and believe in being curious.
About the Role:
Data Engineering at Quizlet encompasses data pipelines and data warehouses, production data stores, and services supporting machine learning and real-time data movement. Data Engineering supports a broader data and product team of 170 people and faces a significant headwind in accumulated data debt.
As the first Data Platform Product Manager, you will help us build the right thing, because we can’t afford to build the wrong thing. You will also help create and evangelize a comprehensive roadmap that binds together the work of the three pillars of Quizlet data engineering, helping our many stakeholders to understand how we are addressing their pain points, or why we are not. You will collaborate with end-user-oriented product managers to help the data roadmap better serve the holistic product vision of Quizlet.
Our colocation work model supports employees both remotely and onsite each week. Employees are required to be in the office on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday and as needed by their manager or the company. This hybrid working environment facilitates collaboration, increases work efficiency, and enhances employee growth.
