Tyto Athene is searching for a highly motivated Front End Software Engineer to design and deliver intuitive user interfaces for government-facing applications. This role supports agile development teams across critical federal programs, enabling secure and scalable web applications that meet stringent accessibility and performance standards.
The ideal candidate is a full stack developer who specializes in building front-end interfaces, with experience delivering prototypes and applications to the federal government. They should have a strong design sensibility and the ability to create compelling demos and polished UI experiences that resonate with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Responsibilities:
- Design, build, and maintain responsive and compliant front-end interfaces using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and modern frameworks (React preferred).
- Translate UI/UX wireframes into production-quality code that aligns with agency branding and usability standards.
- Implement Section 508-compliant designs and test across devices and browsers.
- Integrate with secure APIs and middleware systems, ensuring proper handling of data and authentication flows.
- Maintain a reusable component library and front-end design system to accelerate development across projects.
- Design and deliver polished UI prototypes and interactive demos that effectively communicate product vision to internal stakeholders and federal clients.
- Contribute to automated front-end testing using tools such as Cypress or Playwright.
- Document code, configurations and deployment steps to support maintainability and knowledge transfer.
- Collaborate with UI/UX designers, backend engineers, and federal program teams to deliver seamless user experiences.
- Participate in Agile ceremonies and ensure development follows government security, accessibility, and quality standards.
Required:
- 3+ years of experience in front-end development, ideally within the federal sector.
- Strong JavaScript, Node, and React (or similar framework) expertise.
- Proficiency with Git, CI/CD pipelines, and secure development practices.
- Strong attention to detail, with a commitment to clean, maintainable and well-documented code.
- Familiarity with RESTful APIs and integrating front-end components with backend services.
- Comfortable working in Agile Scrum and Kanban environments.
- U.S. citizenship is required.
Desired:
- 8-15 years of technology experience and 5+ years of front-end (or full-stack) development experience.
- Experience working with the Federal government is strongly desired.
- Familiarity with federal security and compliance standards (e.g. FISMA, NIST, Section 508, FedRAMP) is a plus.
- Knowledge of automated testing frameworks (e.g., Cypress, Playwright, Jest)
- Experience with design tools such as Figma or Adobe XD.
- Strong eye for visual design, typography, layout and interaction patterns.
- Portfolio of polished web applications or UI demos, ideally showing government or enterprise-grade products.
- Security clearance is a plus but not required.
- Compensation is unique to each candidate and relative to the skills and experience they bring to the position. The salary range for this position is typically $130K-$160K. This does not guarantee a specific salary as compensation is based upon multiple factors such as education, experience, certifications, and other requirements, and may fall outside of the above-stated range.
