Housekeeper Sterile Processing

JOB SUMMARY
Responsible for providing and ensuring a clean environment for the Surgical Services Department. This includes cleaning of the surgical suites, OPS, and PACU.  This also includes terminal cleaning of suites as assigned as well as other assigned cleaning areas. Assists with patient transport and positioning as requested. Performs duties according to the Scope of Service for Surgical Services. Practices the SJH Corporate Compliance program and participates in Performance Improvement activities.

Essential Functions 
Housekeeping Duties
· Utilizes and maintains appropriate cleaning supplies for disinfection: cleaning agents, trash bags, mop heads, etc.
· Follows designated cleaning schedule of daily, weekly, and monthly duties. Communicates with OR UC status of cleaning schedule each week.
· Utilizes appropriate PPE when ever the possibility of exposure to Blood Borne Pathogens. Follows principle of medical and surgical asepsis: hand washing, surgical attire, and restrictive traffic patterns.
· Manages disposal of sharps and refuse to ensure personal safety, and reports any accidental exposures according to facility policy.
· Assists with room turnover to facilitate completion of surgical procedures: responds to over-head pages, communicates with surgery charge RN, returns equipment to designated storage area, and follows cleaning protocols.
· Participates in quality performance activities monthly with OR UC.

OPS Housekeeping Duties
· Cleans windows in patient care areas.
· Cleans baseboards, buff floors, wipes ceiling grates.
· Wipe down Pyxis machine including the top.
· Wipe down shelves in offices and nurses station.
· Clean under all office and other equipment (computers, coffee pot, etc).
· Wipe all pediatric decorations in the isolation rooms.
· Wipe down all the walls in the Scope Room.
· Clean tops of cabinets in OPS, Scope and Minor Rooms, Pre-Op and Front Office.
· Other duties as assigned.

Communicates effectively and professionally. Performs and adapts to frequently changing environment and departmental needs. Must be able to work quickly, accurately and efficiently.

Required Skills
Basic computer skills required. Good interpersonal and customer services skills.

Physical Requirements
Must be physically able to bend, kneel, and raise arms above shoulder level. Must be able to push and pull essential housekeeping, laundry and floor equipment. Must be able to lift 50 lbs. Must be on feet standing or walking 90% of shift.
