About the role

Position Summary

Administers, directs, and coordinates activities of Patient Care Administration within assigned service areas, and is responsible for the recommendation, development, and implementation of policies and procedures in these areas, and for keeping the CNO informed of both progress and potential problems. Responsible for the direction and evaluation of patient care delivery. Maintains operational aspects of the patient care department(s) in collaboration with other service areas. Negotiates and maintains hospital liability and casualty insurance policies including levels of coverage, scope of coverage and premiums. Manages claims against the facility, interfacing with legal counsel and administers the risk management program including educational programs and complying with Joint Commission, CMS, OSHA, and other regulatory agency requirements.

 

Primary duty of performing office or non-manual work directly related to the management or general business operations of the employer or the employer’s customers. Primary duty includes the exercise of discretion and independent judgment regarding matters of significance.

 

Qualifications/Experience

Education: 

Clinical Healthcare Degree (BSN, RT, PT, OT, SLP).

Experience: 

5+ years clinical experience in acute care setting. Preferred: Risk Management / Patient Safety experience and/or Quality Management experience. 

Other Skills:

Preferred: CPPS, CPHRM, CPHQ certification

Demonstrated leadership abilities; able to work under stressful situations. Possesses good oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated interpersonal relationships in a manner which enhances communication, promotes conflict resolutions, and facilitates staff development. Skill and knowledge to sustain and evaluate clinical competence in caring for the specific age and type of patient population served. Possesses advanced knowledge of healthcare practices, rules and regulations, COP, Medicare and Medicaid rules/Regs, HIPAA regulations, and AR state and Federal laws/regulations.

Licenses/Certificate:

Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in Arkansas (If Nursing Degree). Specialties, executive, and or clinical certification preferred.

Analyzes existing liability and malpractice policies for coverage and exclusion clauses and contracts including affiliations, agreements, leases, and construction agreements

Participates in negotiations of policy provisions.

Prepare statistical data and materials to support the continuation or reduction of premiums and/or coverage.

Notifies the liability insurance carrier and/or legal counsel for all actual and potential claims.

Works actively in developing defense strategy and evaluating the monetary value of the claim.

Provides insurance information to outside agencies and complies with all state and federal reporting requirements.

Negotiates settlement of small claims with administrative authority and advises collection department of appropriate action for unpaid accounts.
