Position Summary
The Division of Research and Innovation is seeking a highly organized and professional Administrative Coordinator – Research Advancement. Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Research Advancement, this position plays a vital role in advancing the division’s mission to promote faculty and student success in research, scholarship, and creative activity (RSCA).
Key Responsibilities:
- Program Coordination: Provide administrative oversight for faculty, post-doc, and graduate training workshops, group travel, faculty recognition events, institutional outreach programs, and intramural funding initiatives.
- Liaison Role: Serve as a primary point of contact between the Associate Vice President and university officials, deans, faculty, staff, and students.
- Confidential Support: Perform highly sensitive and confidential tasks to support the Associate Vice President’s strategic goals.
- Operational Excellence: Coordinate meetings, manage budgets and projects, and respond to inquiries with a high degree of autonomy and discretion.

Position Information
- This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, permanent/probationary position.
- This position is designated non-exempt under FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation.
- Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.
- The individual hired into this role will work on campus at SDSU in San Diego.
Department Summary
Research Advancement supports and furthers the academic mission of SDSU by assisting SDSU faculty and Deans in devising strategies to advance and expand SDSU’s research endeavors, develop cooperative multidisciplinary, multi-institutional partnership programs, and provide program management for a diverse portfolio of sponsored programs.

Education and Experience
Entry to this classification requires a fully functional knowledge of and skill in standard office procedures and practices, as well as an ability to understand and operate in a variety of organizational structures. Additionally, incumbents are expected to have a thorough knowledge of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation and be able to clearly communicate orally and in writing. Some positions may require a knowledge of business mathematics beyond basic arithmetic. The ability to use and quickly learn new office support technology systems and software packages is also a prerequisite.
These qualifications would normally be obtained through a high school program, technical/vocational program, or their equivalents combined with several years of related office work experience.

- Working knowledge of budget policies and procedures.
- Comprehensive and detailed knowledge of the university infrastructure, policies, and procedures.
- Thorough mastery of English grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
- Expertise in using office software packages, technology, and systems.
- Ability to perform business math, analyze budgetary data, and make accurate projections requiring some inference.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills, including strong public speaking, listening and interpretive skills
- Exceptional written communication skills, including the ability to write complex and detailed reports and proposals.
- Ability to plan ahead, build and retain a knowledge base of current and historical data, retrieve and organize relevant, complex material.
