Job Summary

The Reliability Engineer is responsible for developing, implementing, and continuously improving maintenance and reliability strategies to ensure safe, efficient, and cost-effective operation of site assets. This role drives reliability-centered maintenance (RCM) practices, supports condition monitoring programs, and leads defect elimination processes to enhance equipment performance and lifecycle value.

Essential Functions

  • Independently handles the Equipment Maintenance Strategy (EMS) aligned with RCM principles and ISO 55001 standards.
  • Prioritize reliability initiatives across the site.
  • Review the defect elimination processes, including Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA)
  • Conduct reliability analysis and design reviews for new and existing equipment.
  • Support commissioning activities from a reliability perspective.
  • Analyze equipment performance, maintenance costs, and reliability KPIs; provide insights to leadership.
  • Ensure accuracy and integrity of maintenance documentation, specifications, and asset data.
  • Evaluate asset criticality and maintain the criticality register.
  • Identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities across maintenance processes.
  • Support conformance processes for new equipment procurement, installation, and asset entry.
  • Ensure adherence to maintenance standards, procedures, and best practices.
  • Support condition-based monitoring (CBM) programs and analysis.
  • Assist with complex condition monitoring assessments.
  • Collaborate with technicians and trades to interpret machine performance data.
  • Support condition monitoring activities during plant shutdowns.
  • Help optimize monitoring programs and predictive maintenance strategies.
  • Maintain integrity of master data, reliability data, and documentation systems.
  • Support integration and optimization of CMMS and reliability analytics tools.
  • Monitor and report on maintenance and reliability KPIs.
  • Provide analysis and interpretation of performance metrics to stakeholders.
  • Support development of maintenance forecasts and cost optimization strategies and certification (e.g., SMRP) and adherence to SOPs.
  • Provide guidance and leadership to Maintenance Planners and Reliability Technician (as applicable).
  • Support long-range planning, including annual, 60-day, and 14-day schedules.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet operational objectives.
  • Support development of job descriptions and employee performance reviews.
  • Identify training needs and participate in professional development.
  • Ensure adherence to service level agreements with internal stakeholders.
  • Support selection, maintenance, and calibration of reliability tools and systems.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in maintenance, reliability engineering, or asset management (mining, processing, or heavy industry preferred).
  • Experience implementing Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) programs.
  • Proven experience leading or facilitating Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) or ICAM investigations.
  • Experience working with condition monitoring programs. (vibration, thermography, oil analysis, etc.)
  • Strong understanding of fixed and mobile equipment systems. (pumps, conveyors, crushers, mills, mobile fleet, etc.)
  • Proficiency with CMMS systems. (e.g., JDE, SAP, Maximo)
  • Ability to analyze maintenance and reliability KPIs and translate data into actionable insights.
  • Knowledge of asset management frameworks (ISO 55001 preferred).
  • Experience with spare parts optimization and inventory strategies. (min/max, critical spares)
  • Familiarity with condition-based and predictive maintenance technologies.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, P&IDs, and OEM manuals.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong knowledge of safety regulations and best practices in mining or industrial environments.
  • Familiarity with MSHA regulations and reporting requirements. (preferred)
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety leadership and continuous improvement.
