Why this role matters
The Salvation Army (Salvos) is one of Australia’s largest providers of alcohol and other drug (AOD) programs including withdrawal management, residential and non-residential rehabilitation, and harm reduction programs. Salvos services go beyond addressing the core issues and challenges associated with problematic substance abuse and provide participants a place of hope, compassion, and dignity to recover safely.
Through the Northern Victoria Alcohol and Other Drug Services (NVAODS) program, we provide person-centred support and evidence-based interventions that empower individuals and families to address alcohol and other drug related harms and achieve their wellbeing goals.
About the role
As an Alcohol & Other Drugs Practitioner, you'll empower individuals, families and communities through evidence-based, trauma-informed support that helps people regain control of their future.
Reporting to the Mallee Non-Residential AOD Team Leader, this is a permanent full-time position, based on-site in Mildura, VIC.
Conditions
Compensation is in accordance with the SCHADS Award Level 5.
How you will make an impact
- Conduct comprehensive AOD assessments and recovery planning
- Deliver evidence-based counselling and therapeutic interventions
- Provide strengths-based, trauma-informed case management
- Support clients and families to achieve sustainable recovery
- Connect clients with health, housing and community support services
- Work collaboratively with community partners across the Mallee region, including Swan Hill, Mildura, Gannawarra and Buloke
You're passionate about supporting people to make positive changes and believe in treating every person with dignity, respect and compassion. You build trust quickly, think critically, and thrive in a collaborative environment where your expertise makes a real difference.
What you will bring
- A tertiary qualification in Social Work, Psychology, Community Services or a related discipline (minimum Diploma in Community Services)
- Experience in alcohol and other drug services, counselling, case management or the broader community services sector
- Knowledge of recovery-oriented, strengths-based and trauma-informed practice
- Outstanding communication and relationship-building skills
- The ability to manage a diverse caseload while working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
- A current Victorian Driver’s Licence
- A current Employee Working with Children Check
- An AOD Skill Set qualification, or the willingness to obtain it within your first 12 months
