As a Physical Therapist, you will utilize various exercises to help patients increase strength, range of motion, endurance and coordination. Because this position requires close interaction, you have the opportunity to build strong relationships with both patients and their families. Often, your patients are dealing with pain, so sensitivity is important. Ultimately, your unconditional support and reassurance can drive them to work hard and regain their health.  

This position offers opportunities for professional growth through Cleveland Clinic Rehabilitation and Sports Therapy’s extensive continuing education courses and special interest groups that promote networking and collaboration among rehabilitation professionals.

A caregiver in this role works days from 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. or 20:30 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.

This positions home location will be at the Fairview Wellness Center. Additional shifts/work may occur at the Fairview Gemini Center based on the departmental needs of the Fairview Wellness Center and the Fairview Gemini Center.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

  • Evaluate and conduct medically prescribed physical therapy treatment programs.  

  • Perform initial and ongoing assessments.  

  • Establish, revise and evaluate plans of care.  

  • Perform physical therapy interventions utilizing standard physical therapy techniques and skills appropriate for the patient’s age and condition. 

  • Supervise the activities of physical therapy assistants, students and other support caregivers.   

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • Bachelor's Degree or certificate 

  • Graduate of a Physical Therapy Program accredited by the American Physical Therapy Association 

  • Current state licensure as a Physical Therapist (PT) 

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:   

  • Experience in a clinical area 

  • Experienced and versatile outpatient orthopedic physical therapist

  • Experience in post-operative rehab, geriatric rehab and spine rehabilitation

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to walk without assistive device and to maintain balance despite sudden load in order to support patient from falling, for example, during gait training.

  • Ability to lift and reach with arms sufficiently to lift patient's arm or leg during exercise program.

  • Sensation to touch and manual dexterity to be able to palpate muscle tension or to monitor patient's pulse.

  • Visual acuity to observe patient's gross movement, gait, etc., in order to analyze biomechanical problems.

  • Ability to speak clearly enough to instruct patients and families who may not be able to read.
