JOB DESCRIPTION:

Advanced Manufacturing Engineer

 

Position Summary:

The Advanced Manufacturing Engineer (AME) will work directly with the product development teams to analyze early product designs, develop the manufacturing concept, and facility footprint impact.  They will also provide feedback on manufacturability and business case impact to the product managers.  As a member of the Bendix Industrialization team, the AME will work closely with the Advanced Manufacturing site managers, project leads, and plant staff in the detailed development and implementation of the Industrialization Project. 

The AME is considered a subject matter expert in manufacturing processes, Lean Manufacturing, DFMA, costs estimating, and project management.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Analyze new products and develop the manufacturing process required to produce the  product in the required volume, at expected quality and production KPIs
  • Lead the collaboration of the Industrialization team; including Quality, Manufacturing Engineering, Health and Safety, Internal Logistics, and Operations
  • Support the development of a business case, with technical and financial data
  • Create process requirements documents and request for quotations
  • Lead the communications with outside equipment suppliers
  • Manage the Industrialization development process, through the Bendix Gate Approval process
  • Prepare and present project updates
  • Maintain required project documents, including budgets, timelines, open actions, and risks.
  • Transfer product and process knowledge to the Industrialization team
  • Travel of up to 25% to manufacturing facilities to support projects

 

Knowledge:

  • Strong understanding of automotive business principles and practices to effectively manage manufacturing, demonstrating bottom-line results.
  • In depth knowledge/hands-on experience using pneumatics, hydraulics& electric/electronic controls.
  • Knowledge of QS9000 and ISO14001 systems and requirements.
  • Working knowledge of tooling design/implementation and use of AutoCAD or similar CAD software.

 

Experience:

  • Minimum 15 years of Manufacturing Engineering Experience with fabrication, assembly, tooling, and project management.
  • Automotive Manufacturing background (machining, welding, stamping, tool repair, casting, and assembly a plus) w/ Geometrical Spec Interpretation.
  • Strong background in product and process development, including DFM/DFA, developing process specifications, capital estimates, and production workflows.
  • Project Management experience, including cost justification, accounting controls, scope definition, resource management, and track record for project completion.
  • Experience with assembly processes, welding, hydraulics, pneumatics, robotics, PLC-controlled equipment, & CNC equipment.
  • Experience in using Lean Manufacturing Techniques such as Kaizen, Lean, TPM, etc.

 

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering is required.
  • Master’s degree and/or Six Sigma Green Belt is desirable
