Established in 1970, Serving Seniors helps San Diego County’s low-income seniors overcome poverty through whole-person, wraparound support including meals, housing, health and social services, and enrichment activities. We work at numerous sites across the county and in the homes of hundreds of homebound seniors. Our flagship Gary & Mary West Senior Wellness Center in downtown San Diego is unlike any other senior center in the nation. Bringing together a range of supportive services under one roof, the Senior Wellness Center operates 365 days a year and offers two floors of integrated care, including health and social services, housing navigation, enrichment activities, lifelong learning, a Cyber Café and linkage to over 25 onsite direct service partners, including a senior dental center. Last fiscal year, we provided over 1,400,000 meals and coordinated services to 6,800 older adults.

Job Purpose
The Guest Services and Security Coordinator reports to the Facilities Manager and plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of the Wellness Center. As one of the first employees clients see when they enter the center, this front-facing position is essential in creating a positive first impression. The role also includes maintaining security by monitoring the premises and responding to incidents, alongside some janitorial duties and various facilities-related tasks to support the overall maintenance and functionality of the center.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Serve as one of the first employees clients see when they enter the center, creating a positive first impression.
- Control access to the facility through the admittance process, assisting visitors with a legitimate need to enter the facility. Screen visitors and client employees efficiently to expedite their entry.
- Provide an atmosphere where all client employees and visitors feel their needs are cared for. Ensure courteous, respectful, and pleasant interactions, presenting a good image of the client and its security department.
- Monitor entrances and exits, prevent unauthorized or unlawful entry, control the movement of people and vehicles, and manage parking. Operate gates, monitor remote entrances via closed-circuit television, and direct disruptive individuals to leave the property calmly.
- Patrol the site, checking for unsafe conditions, hazards, unlocked doors, security violations, blocked ingress/egress, mechanical issues, and unauthorized persons. Inspect buildings and grounds using appropriate equipment and protective gear.
- Protect evidence or the scene of an incident in the event of accidents, emergencies, or security investigations. Set up barriers and signage, providing direction or information to others as needed.
- Prepare logs or reports as required for the site; write or type reports or enter information into a computer using standard grammar; inspect security control logs and act as required.
- Conduct daily audits to ensure adherence to shortage control, safety, and all other Loss Prevention policies and procedures.
