Our Responsible AI team is dedicated to building a technology center to provide technical support for all ByteDance products from the perspective of making AI models responsible, trustworthy, and aligned with human values. We are looking for research engineering interns who have solid technical skills while passionate about pursuing excellence in responsible AI and related areas.

We are looking for talented individuals to join us for an internship in 2025. Internships at TikTok aim to offer students industry exposure and hands-on experience. Turn your ambitions into reality as your inspiration brings infinite opportunities at ByteDance.

Internships at ByteDance aim to provide students with hands-on experience in developing fundamental skills and exploring potential career paths. A vibrant blend of social events and enriching development workshops will be available for you to explore. Here, you will utilize your knowledge in real-world scenarios while laying a strong foundation for personal and professional growth. It runs for 12-24 weeks and begins in May/June 2025 or August/September 2025. Successful candidates must be able to commit to one of the following start dates below:

Candidates who pass resume evaluation will be invited to participate in ByteDance's technical online assessment through HackerRank.

Responsibilities:
- Research and development of technologies on responsible AI, particularly with a focus on large language models, including but not limited to safety, reasoning, alignment, privacy, robustness;
- Implement algorithms and perform empirical experiments on responsible AI related fields;
- Understand responsible AI algorithms and discuss ideas with researchers.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
- Currently pursuing a MS degree in Machine Learning or other related fields;
- Solid coding ability in implementing machine learning algorithms;
- Background in large language models, especially post-training or alignment, is preferable;
- Familiar with at least one popular machine learning framework (e.g., Pytorch, TensorFlow, JAX etc);
- Good at communications and prioritizing teamwork;
- Must obtain work authorization in country of employment at the time of hire, and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment.
