Today we are looking for an outstanding Senior Fermentation expert to become part of our experienced team of experts in strain engineering, process development, microbial physiology and technology transfer to internal and external pilot and commercial production assets. We seek someone that is specialized in the application of a various of host organisms (i.e., yeast, bacteria, mammalian cell, algae and filamentous fungi) to produce industrial, nutritional, and medically relevant molecules.
As a Senior Scientist you will work in innovative, cross-functional project teams using the most advanced bioprocess and fermentation techniques available to contribute to solving some of the global challenges we face today. You will also be responsible for identifying and implementing new, enabling technologies, for fermentation development across the teams you are part of and throughout the S&R organization.

Key Responsibilities
- You will design and improve existing fermentation processes to optimize production of complex small molecules, enzymes, and proteins;
- You will develop suitable cultivation conditions and lab setups to evaluate (strain) and validate (performance) of various host organisms in an industrial context;
- You will analyze the cellular metabolism of microbial strains to better understand their physiology, in order to identify bottlenecks limiting performance and generate hypothesis and develop experimental plans to improve performance of the microbial strain and fermentation process;
- You will stay up to date with scientific advancements and technical innovations in the fermentation, bioprocess and biotechnology fields, identify opportunities to differentiate our capabilities through internal application;
- Compile, curate and analyze large date sets and present data to the scientific team;
- Comply with SHE procedures and proactively contribute to improving laboratory safety.

- Reward: Based on your experience we will offer you a base salary of € 87,893 to € 125,562 per year (including holiday allowance and 13th month) and extra benefits, such as 25 holiday days, a bonus, the option to buy more holiday days with a 6% my choice budget and much more.
You Bring
- You are a Biochemical Engineer, Fermentation Scientist or Biotechnologist, by training at PhD level, with a broad, professional network;
- You are a specialist in, or have demonstrated affinity with, cellular or microbial physiology, metabolic engineering, fermentation process development and bioprocess design, preferably in an industrial context with at least 10 years of relevant experience;
- You have experience with running bench-scale fermentations and affinity for microbiological work in a laboratory environment;
- You have knowledge on bioprocess principles such as different modes of operation, up- and down-scaling considerations, and bioprocess data processing and modeling;
- You have a demonstrated ability to coach, mentor, advise and manage junior team members for successful outcomes (both project and profession development related);
