About the role

ABOUT THE JOB

The ACLU seeks applicants for the full-time position of Deputy Director of Development Data & Systems in the Development Department of the ACLU’s National office in New York, NY. This is a hybrid role that has in-office requirements of two (2) days per week or eight (8) days per month.

The ACLU’s passionate community of donors and activists is stronger than ever. The mission of the ACLU’s Development Department is to unlock the full potential of donors and the ACLU as partners in the creation of a more perfect union. We pursue our mission by building long-term donor relationships and organizational partnerships, by demonstrating impact in response to threats, by engaging donors how they wish to engage, by taking interest in our donors and facilitating personal action, by being accountable stewards of their funds, and by asking donors to consider giving the ACLU their full support.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

Reporting to the Director of Development Data, Systems & Revenue Operations (DDSRO), the Deputy Director, Development Data partners with the Director to lead the implementation of DDSRO’s data strategy through key internal and external partnerships and collaboration. The deputy will serve as the ACLU’s fundraising data thought leader with a goal of making the right data as broadly accessible as possible and will lead the DDSRO data teams in bringing this vision to fruition as the ACLU migrates to a new fundraising system. The right candidate will be a highly effective communicator and leader, working as a trusted advisor to the Salesforce steering committee, the fundraising data working group, nationwide fundraisers, DDSRO teams, DDSRO partners, and external vendors on driving development data structure, integrity, policies, processes, tools, and assets to inform, advance, and support fundraising strategic goals. The right candidate will also be a strong team leader, able to cultivate disparate skillsets and manage team performance to ensure data is designed well and kept to standards established in the data SLA.

This is a 12-month term-limited role, and an ideal opportunity for a strategic, collaborative, empathetic, and forward-thinking data leader to apply their skills, experience, and expertise to harness data for the ACLU’s mission.

YOUR DAY TO DAY

  • In partnership with the Director of DDSRO and in collaboration with the Development leadership team and key technology strategists at the ACLU, develop a vision of how fundraising data will be structured and managed at the ACLU in the next 12 months, leveraging a fundraising CRM system migration project as a catalyst for change. Design a system-agnostic fundraising data structure that best serves the ACLU’s fundraising goals and serves as a basis for the approach to the data migration to the new fundraising CRM, as well as a tool for identifying data improvement initiatives in the current state. Document the data structure and lead open dialogues and discussions with internal and external stakeholders on benefits, impacts, and downstream effects of data structural changes.
  • Work with the Director of Development Data & Systems in developing an 12-month roadmap to the future state, identifying scope of the data migration in the CRM implementation project and developing project proposals for any tangential initiatives needed to ensure the success of the model and the future-state vision. Serve as the data lead for the migration for the implementation, including leading the DDSRO data team in mapping and testing the data to ensure sound and effective structure and good hygiene. Lead tangential strategic projects and initiatives when necessary, ensuring goals and timelines are met for each project.
  • Work with Development leadership and cross-functional stakeholders to establish a service level agreement for data integrity and availability, perform a gap analysis on current operations, and build improvement projects into the 12-month roadmap.
  • Lead the campaign data team, fostering skills and professional growth and managing performance to ensure goals are met, roadmap is executed on time and on budget, and the standards set in the SLA are met or exceeded.
  • Set data policy and usage standards that ensure uniform, accurate, and reportable data in partnership with the Technology team, the Data Governance and Privacy team, and other stakeholders. Oversee monitoring and auditing programs, and develop new ones where needed, to ensure compliance with policy, usage standards, ACLU data privacy and governance practices, ethical and equitable use of data, and laws and regulations.
  • Assist in the development and management of the DDSRO roadmap, resourcing, and capacity planning, working with cross-functional peers to ensure roadmaps align
