As an Associate Environmental Technician you will assist with the collection and proper management of inspection and monitoring data associated with environmental monitoring programs, such as leak detection and repairs (LDAR), cooling tower monitoring, storage tank seal inspections, process and waste water sample collection, and RCRA inspections. Ensure that all control, monitoring, recordkeeping, and reporting requirements related to assigned areas of responsibility are satisfied.

  • Perform leak detection monitoring in specific process units.
  • Perform daily and quarterly calibration/repairs on OVA gas analyzers.
  • Conduct first attempt maintenance on leaking components.
  • Conduct re-monitoring of maintenance attempts on leakers.
  • Conduct tagging and retagging of components as needed.
  • Complete paperwork – leak logs, purple-tag logs, identification of problem monitoring leakers, maintenance requisitions, delay of repair forms, maintenance work orders, monthly drain inspections, tank seal inspections, etc.
  • Provide all paperwork needed for monitoring.
  • Inspect car seals on closed vent systems.
  • Generate and produce semi-annual reports as needed.
  • Perform storage tank roof and seal inspections.
  • Document and report any leaks observed by sight, smell, or sound.
  • Conduct monitoring and provide records on cooling tower emissions.
  • Assist with regulatory inspections as needed.
  • Conduct visible emission observations.
  • Perform ambient air sampling during emergency release incidents, as requested.
  • Perform waste/wastewater inspections and sampling.
  • Collect refinery process samples to support regulatory programs.
  • Assist in the coordination of third-party contractor LDAR monitoring.
  • Assist with implementation of environmental compliance programs.
  • Assist with the proper handling and disposal of all wastes (e.g., non-hazardous, hazardous, universal, etc.).
  • Interface with other refinery departments (e.g., Operations and Maintenance) as necessary to ensure refinery compliance with environmental obligations.

This position is salaried nonexempt status, which means you are eligible for overtime pay.

 

Qualifications:

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • No Experience required.
  • Able and willing to work on-site, in-person at the Valero Bill Greehey Refinery, required.
