Job Summary/Purpose
The official title of this position will be IT Consultant.
This position is for an Oracle Database Administrator.
The Database Administrator (DBA) will play a critical role in ensuring the availability, performance, and security of our enterprise database systems. It is expected that DBAs will specialize in either Oracle or SQL Server, but cross-training is welcome if desired. Working closely with other teams in a multi-vendor, multi-shore environment, the DBA must help to foster cooperation between teams to solve complex problems and continuously improve customer experience.
Education, Experience, and/or Certification:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
- 5+ years of experience as a Database Administrator in a large-scale enterprise environment
- Proficiency in installing, configuring, and managing database software (Oracle 11g/12c/19c+, SQL Server 2012/2016/2019+) and related tools.
- Strong understanding of database architecture, performance tuning, and optimization techniques.
- Experience with database security concepts and technologies, including role-based access controls, encryption, auditing, and threat/vulnerability management (TVM).
- Solid knowledge of database backup and recovery strategies, including RMAN, Data Guard, Commvault, and ZDLRA.
- Excellent troubleshooting skills, with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex database issues in a timely manner.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Microsoft or Oracle certifications preferred, but not required.
- Experience operating and managing databases in a cloud environment is a strong plus (particularly AWS).
- Experience migrating databases from on-prem to cloud environments is also a strong plus.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, configure, and maintain database software and related technologies.
- This position will require occasional after-hours support and participation in an on-call roster with both employees and contract support resources.
- Design and implement database structures, including tables, indexes, and partitions, to support optimal performance and scalability.
- Monitor and tune database performance, identifying and resolving issues proactively to ensure maximum uptime and efficiency.
- Manage vulnerabilities throughout our database fleet in accordance with established policies/procedures
- Implement and maintain database security policies, including access controls, encryption, and data masking, to protect sensitive information from unauthorized access.
- Plan and execute database backup and recovery strategies, including regular backups, point-in-time recovery, and disaster recovery procedures, to minimize data loss and downtime.
- Collaborate with developers, system administrators, and other stakeholders to troubleshoot database-related issues and optimize application performance.
- Conduct regular health checks and performance assessments of database systems, recommending and implementing improvements as needed.<
