Job Overview

The Merchandise Planning Executive Development Program provides early-career professionals with valuable experience and training to launch their careers within Macy’s. The program combines structured workshops with hands-on learning and immerses participants in a performance-oriented team environment that values collaboration and fresh ideas. Participants gain exposure to data-driven projects, Supply Chain initiatives, and daily department operations. Upon successful completion, individuals transition into the role of Merchandise Planning Assistant. The program is based at Macy’s corporate offices in New York City, with start dates throughout the year based on business needs.

The Merchandise Planning & Inventory Management team drives inventory productivity by optimizing allocation and replenishment strategies to ensure the right product—down to the SKU level—is delivered to the right store, at the right time, and in the right quantity. Highly analytical and system-driven, the team plays a critical role in influencing assortment and financial planning decisions. They own day-to-day execution of product allocation and replenishment, aligning with pre-season plans and making in-season adjustments based on trend performance.

What You Will Do

  • Execute daily inventory allocation and replenishment tasks.
  • Develop a strong understanding of financial performance metrics and assortment planning principles.
  • Conduct analyses to support inventory strategies, including hold and flow, multiple shipments, and fulfillment planning.
  • Use analytical tools to drive sales, optimize inventory productivity, and reduce markdowns.
  • Partner with the Inventory Manager to gather inputs for demand forecasting and inventory optimization.
  • Allocate fashion inventory through centralized fulfillment based on store and channel needs.
  • Operate inventory systems according to established guidelines to generate orders and support financial planning.
  • Contribute to in-season replenishment forecasts by identifying inventory risks and opportunities.
  • Assist in identifying and implementing process improvements for allocation and replenishment functions.
  • Meet deadlines while working independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Maintain regular, dependable attendance and punctuality.

Skills You Will Need

Analytical & Technical Skills – Interpret data, identify trends, support demand planning, and optimize allocation using Excel and inventory systems.

Retail & Financial Acumen – Apply retail math concepts (IMU, sell-through, turn) to drive business results.

Who You Are
