Responsibilities:

The Senior Associate Vice President of Principal Gifts and Presidential Advancement coordinates engagement of the University’s most capable donors in considering transformational gifts to support the University of Rochester’s highest priorities. This position will also be responsible for representing the Senior Vice President’s interests in overseeing the daily management of the Office of Principal Giving and the Office of Presidential Advancement. Reporting to the Senior Vice President and Chief Advancement Officer, the Senior Associate Vice President of Principal Gifts and Presidential Advancement is primarily responsible for assisting the President, senior academic officers and senior management of University Advancement, in the identification, qualification, strategic engagement, solicitation and personalized stewardship of prospects and donors with a university capacity rating of $5 million+. This role will also oversee the strategy and final decisions regarding Trustee boards, chairs and volunteer management, as it pertains to Advancement.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee the design and execution of individualized strategies for the identification, qualification, and engagement of prospects/donors/families with a university capacity rating of $5 million+.
  • Lead efforts with major gift teams across the program to develop new high-level prospects, focused on the common goal of moving prospects towards readiness to make increasingly generous gifts for priority purposes.
  • Carry a principal gift-level prospect portfolio and work closely with the President, SVP, and others in field activity, modelling success and best practices in principal gift fundraising.
  • Help coordinate and manage the strategy for the President, as it pertains to Advancement and in relation to principal and presidential-level prospects.
  • Oversee the operations of the Office of Principal Gifts and co-manage the Office of Presidential Advancement in partnership with Advancement’s Chief of Staff.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s Degree Required
  • Master’s Degree or equivalent advanced degree Preferred
  • Ten years’ experience in a sophisticated Advancement environment at a research university preferred
  • or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Meaningful experience working closely with a highly ranked college or university president Required
  • Sophisticated understanding of “moves management” and major and principal gifts fundraising in a campaign context Required
  • Working knowledge of alumni programs processes and procedures targeted to high wealth prospects. Required
  • Working knowledge of principles and practices of university administration. Required
  • Proven direct experience soliciting and closing numerous seven-figure and/or transformational gifts in a campaign context Required

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Able to see and understand the objectives of the Advancement program and all other divisions of the University Advancement Office, and to integrate their goals with those objectives. Required
  • Able to work closely with a highly motivated and active CAO and Advancement staff. Required
  • Ability to initiate, analyze, monitor, evaluate and advance strategic advancement plans. Required
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Required
  • Understanding and appreciation for a team-oriented management style. Required
  • Ability to patiently multi-task in high-pressure settings Required

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
